Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Taoism and Death - A School Project

Please note that there are several students presently creating the article, "Taoism and Death" as a part of a school project. Any help you might give them or edits you might contribute to this page are graciously welcome. Also, please note that a couple of antagonistic editors have been interfering in these students' work, and so an assistance with this would also be appreciated. Naming issues, once again

I just happened to look at the article on Te only to find that it actually used the pinyin De for its article name. Wikipedia as a whole needs to be consistent (at least within the unified sphere of tao/dao-related issues) on whether of not it's going to use pinyin spellings. I don't care which way it goes, personally (I prefer pinyin, but I understand the case for WG), but it ought to be one way or the other. I made the case for changing De to Te on that talk page, which an editor objected to; I'm asking for other opinions here. failing that, I may just be bold and move all T* pages to their D* equivalents unilaterally. --Ludwigs2 16:01, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, everything associated with Daoism on Wikipedia is done in Pinyin, except for 'Daoism' itself, which is in Wade-Giles. Personally, I would prefer everything in Pinyin, but you will never reach consensus if you try to move Taoism to Daoism.Zeus1234 (talk) 01:08, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

I fully support changing Tao, Taoism, and Tao Te Ching to pinyin, but before you propose it, please review the results of previous discussions like this. While some hidebound editors consistently oppose renaming for consistency, eventualism favors the change. Keahapana (talk) 02:47, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

For what little it's worth, as a relative outsider to this discussion, I very much urge that the discussion be given as long to reach a conclusion as is required. Naming disputes have a long history of festering for a long time, and premature action can and often does cause hard feelings among those involved. As someone who knows virtually nothing about the subject, I think I have, admittedly inaccurately, seen "Tao" written significantly more often than "Dao", so my own inclinations would be toward the "T" spelling. that works for me. do you think it will fly with others? it's not like people will seek out the wikiproject itself without already having some exposure to the naming issues, so that argument shouldn't hold much water. go ahead, and do it, or raise the issue, or I'll do one of those if you prefer. --Ludwigs2 19:25, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

If I might be so bold, I think maybe the best way to do that would be to send messages to all the members regarding the proposed renaming and ask them their comments. Also, it would certainly be possible to file a move request at Wikipedia:Requested moves for either renaming the project or article and see what kind of response is gotten. It would probably take at least a week or two to get enough comments to judge though. John Carter (talk) 19:38, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
