Championship League: Prize fund details for 2012 and before
I have been working on the winnings tables for the invitational version of the Championship League and, to that end, have created an Excel spreadsheet to work it all out (if anyone would like a copy just let me know where to send it). This works quite well and I have been able to use it to correct errors in the tables for 2021, 2019, 2016 & 2015, and to add the tables for 2019-2020, 2014 & 2013.
But now I'm stuck! Looking at the 2012 & 2011 tournaments, there seems to be a different prize fund arrangement for the final group, with no difference between a frame-win in the league and a frame-win in the play-offs. I've done some research but have not been able, so far, to confirm this to be the case. Also, for the 2010 tournament, there seems to be no high-break prizes.
I would like to be able to independently confirm this, before working on the tables for 2012, 2011 and 2010.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction to find this information. AlH42 (talk) 07:02, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- Maybe you can get something out of the Wayback Machine (web.archive.org). All quite hit-and-miss of course. Found this: https://web.archive.org/web/20140126020913/http://www.championshipleaguesnooker.co.uk/moneywon.htm (archived 26 Jan 2014) which gives some details and annual totals but seems to be incomplete. - See https://web.archive.org/web/20140126020903/http://www.championshipleaguesnooker.co.uk/results.htm (and the links there) and also https://web.archive.org/web/20100904164559/http://www.matchroomsport.com/articleDetail.asp?intArticleID=610 from the old matchroomsport website. Nigej (talk) 14:57, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Nigej. I had already looked at these, and I have just now finished calculating the 2011 table which works out (almost) the same as the values in https://web.archive.org/web/20140126020913/http://www.championshipleaguesnooker.co.uk/moneywon.htm, with only one minor discrepancy of £100.
- So - do you think I should go ahead and publish the tables, or should I wait for further confirmation? AlH42 (talk) 17:10, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- I'd have thought so. https://web.archive.org/web/20140223050911/http://www.championshipleaguesnooker.co.uk/results/2011_cls_group_one_results.htm gives details of how money for the groups was awarded. Nigej (talk) 18:28, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- OK - I've just done 2012. Please have a look and tell me if you think it will do. I'll start on 2011 over the next few days. AlH42 (talk) 19:36, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- 2011 is now done and I think it's OK.
- I have finished calculating the 2010 table and this has thrown up a major discrepancy.
- The prize fund data as published gives £100 for a G1-7 frame-win and £300 for a GW frame-win, with no difference for league-stage and play-offs.
- Using these values doesn't work!
- But if I change the G1-7 play-off frame-win to £300 and the GW league-stage frame-win to £200, then the overall table matches the values in https://web.archive.org/web/20120219194633/http://www.premierleaguesnooker.com/championship/moneywon/prize_fund_for_2012_championship_league.htm exactly, and also matches the values in https://web.archive.org/web/20100408114154/http://www.global-snooker.com/2010-Championship-Snooker-League-Stats-n-Facts.asp with only a couple of minor discrepancies which I think I can put down to typos in the archive.
- So - should I go ahead and make these changes? AlH42 (talk) 09:45, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- I have now finished calculating the 2009 and 2008 winnings tables and have found the same error in the prize fund data for each of these that I detailed in yesterday's post above for the 2010 table.
- Nigej - do you think I should publish the 2010, 2009 & 2008 tables? AlH42 (talk) 16:15, 10 March 2023 (UTC)

Championship League (non-ranking): Group Tables
The group results tables for 2008 through to 2014 are a different style to those for 2015 through to 2023.
I think it would be better to change the earlier ones to make them the same as the later ones.
As an example, this is how the 2014 group one table looks now:
Ranking | CAR |
TRU |
DAV |
WAL |
MUR |
BIN |
MIL |
Frame W–L |
Match W–L |
Pld–Pts | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Ali Carter | x | 3 | 1 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 16–8 | 5–1 | 6–5 |
2 | Judd Trump | 0 | x | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 15–5 | 5–1 | 6–5 |
3 | Mark Davis | 3 | 0 | x | 1 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 13–9 | 4–2 | 6–4 |
4 | Ricky Walden | 2 | 0 | 3 | x | 2 | 3 | 3 | 13–12 | 3–3 | 6–3 |
5 | Shaun Murphy | 1 | 1 | 0 | 3 | x | 3 | 2 | 10–16 | 2–4 | 6–2 |
6 | Stuart Bingham | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | x | 3 | 11–16 | 1–5 | 6–1 |
7 | Robert Milkins | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 3 | 1 | x | 5–17 | 1–5 | 6–1 |
and this is what I think it should look like:
Pos | Player | Pld | W | L | FF | FA | FD | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Ali Carter | 6 | 5 | 1 | 16 | 8 | +8 | Qualification to Group 1 play-off |
2 | Judd Trump | 6 | 5 | 1 | 15 | 5 | +10 | |
3 | Mark Davis | 6 | 4 | 2 | 13 | 9 | +4 | |
4 | Ricky Walden | 6 | 3 | 3 | 13 | 12 | +1 | |
5 | Shaun Murphy | 6 | 2 | 4 | 10 | 16 | −6 | Advances into Group 2 |
6 | Stuart Bingham | 6 | 1 | 5 | 11 | 16 | −5 | Eliminated from the competition |
7 | Robert Milkins | 6 | 1 | 5 | 5 | 17 | −12 |
Would anyone object if I was to change these tables? AlH42 (talk) 10:15, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Second version is much better. Just make sure to follow MOS:ICON and use {{flagathlete}} rather than {{flagicon}} Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:21, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Lee.
- But I think, for now, I'll use {{flagicon}} since I've got the table code all ready to go.
- All of the tables from 2015 through to 2023 either use {{flagicon}} or have no icons at all.
- So it would be a big(ish) job to go through all 8 tables in all 16 tournaments to change them to {{flagathlete}}.
- I might do that at some stage.

- Yeah, that's no problem. I actually have a script for making this change if you need to make it on articles: User:Ohconfucius/script/flagcruft.js. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:33, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Lee
- I've just done 2008 and used flagathlete as you suggested.
- Please have a look and let me know if it's OK, and I'll then do the rest over the coming days.

- Per {{Country data Ireland}} Incorrect usage: "do not use the IRE/EIR aliases without a flag variant specified." IRE on its own, works but shouldn't be used (although you'll find many instances of it being used). IRL is the correct code to use. Seems strange, I know, but that's the rule. Nigej (talk) 15:17, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Nigej - done that. AlH42 (talk) 15:35, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Great work. The tables are much nicer. I must say I have difficulty working on these articles, as there's not much in the way of creating a summary for an event with little fanfare. It's great to get something MOS compliant in though! Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:43, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
