Sailor Cosmos is...

[edit]

It is unclear if Sailor Cosmos is herself the future form of Sailor Moon (in the original manga, versus the Tokyopop translations) or if Sailor Cosmos is an entirely different character. The Japanese version may have been deliberately vague on this subject. The creator of Sailor Moon, Naoko Takeuchi has not taken a stance on this issue yet.

In the original manga it is pretty clear that Sailor Cosmos is (spoiler warning) the future self of Sailor Moon, which weary of the endless fighting travelled back in time to remember how she was once innocent and kept fighting the good fight for noble reasons (she'd forgotten why she kept fighting). I don't know the Tokyopop translations, but I'm not aware of any debate on the subject (by people who have read the original manga, that is). Naoko Takeuchi hasn't taken a stance because honestly, there isn't a stance to take. Cheers Raystorm 19:45, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right, I haven't gotten there yet. This is just the test page where I'm working on the possible merge of the extant articles ChibiChibi and Sailor Cosmos. Most of the text (except fore the background section) is from the former.
Anyway, Takeuchi has explicitly stated that Sailor Cosmos is the future Sailor Moon. What we don't know is whether she's Usagi, because Neo-Queen Serenity may have given up the ability to become a Senshi.
Also, Sailor Cosmos actually goes back in time to convince Sailor Moon to destroy the Galaxy Cauldron so that Chaos can never come back. She eventually changes her mind, is reinspired, and returns to her own time to carry on. --Masamage 20:29, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Aaah, okay then, sorry if I was butting in. Yeah, it does makes sense to merge both.
*Grin* It's been a long time since I discussed SM trivia. This brings back good memories... So Sailor Moon doesn't need to be Usagi or Chibiusa necessarily, you're saying it might be another (future) descendant of them. That's an intriguing theory.
However, the text I highlighted and commented makes reference to Sailor Cosmos and Sailor Moon, not Sailor Cosmos and Usagi. Might be delving into OR to speculate about her being Usagi, if we already know she is Sailor Moon...Technically, she _is_ the same character as Sailor Moon, just not necessarily the same as Usagi.
Did that make sense? :) Cheers Raystorm 21:27, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I like how you've worded it in the article. Cheers Raystorm 21:52, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. ^_^ I think Chibiusa becomes the future Sailor Moon too, so while Sailor Cosmos is definitely an evolution of that title, we don't know exactly who she is or whether she's the same as any of the other characters. I tried to phrase it in the article just now so that it mentions the discrepancy without veering off into original research. Glad you think it looks okay. :) Obviously it's in dire need of the exact source on what happens to Neo-Queen Serenity's powers....
Anyway, the full discussion regarding the merge is at Talk:ChibiChibi, which is where I said I'd be making this to prove it could be done. Since it's about finished now, I'm gonna head back over there and provide a link. --Masamage 21:54, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
