Changes to the opera banner
There have been several changes made to the opera banner recently without discussing it with us. I am not sure what the benefits/negatives are so I don't know whether we should be concerned or not.Nrswanson (talk) 13:03, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- I wonder why they changed it without discussing or at least show some courtesy by informing us! Please join the discussion in Template WikiProject Opera: Changed of new logo. Should I change our logo in our Portal now? - Jay (talk) 14:18, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- To clarify things we have two different actions by two different editors at work here. User:Javitomad changed our logo (and incidentally joined the project). User:Happy-melon changed the banner coding, but from talking to him it looks like he has significantly improved the banner.Nrswanson (talk) 15:10, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
The logo was changed from this to this by Javitomad who had designed the original logo. There are good reasons for changing it from .png format to .svg. I've left him a note at his talk page asking him to explain here at the OP Talk Page why he felt the design (shape and colour of background) also had to be changed in the process. There may be good technical reasons for it, although I can't imagine what they'd be. I have to confess I don't particularly care for for the new version. - Hmmmm. The new design is starting to grow on me.:-). Nrswanson has asked Happy-melon if it would be complicated to change it back on the template were we to decide to do that. We'll have to wait until Javitomad can explain to us why the design was changed and Happy Melon answers our query about whether the old logo (converted to .svg) can be easily restored to the template, and then gauage the opinion on the design. Jay, if it's not a lot of trouble, you could change to the new one on the portal so at least it matches with our current banner. Voceditenore (talk) 15:34, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
These are templates / pages that need to be changed.
- Portal Opera talkpage banner
- Portal Opera logo
- Opera project template talkpage
- Opera project participant 2
- Opera project participant 3
- Opera project participant 4
- Opera project participant 5
#Addition – File linked to the image (linked to other portals and categories) - The list will still appear due to server cache, however all the categories/portals/templates hv been changed to the new logo
- I do not mind changing them all but I was hoping for this not to happen again. Hopefully in the future, he will tell us before making changes - Jay (talk) 05:14, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
I designed the original logo (PNG format), and now I've had time to converse it into SVG format. I think the differences between the old and the new version aren't important; And the vectorial format has a lot of advantages. Do you mind of the changes? If you do, you can revert the changes I made changing the SVG to the old PNG
Javitomad (...tell me...) 15:37, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Well, like I said, the new design is starting to grow on me. I actually quite like it now and the .svg format has a lot of advantages. I propose we keep the new one and let Jay go ahead and change the portal and user templates. Does anyone have any strong feelings to the contrary? Jay, do all those other pages that link to it have to be changed by hand? That seems an enormous job.:( Voceditenore (talk) 15:53, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, I have changed them all - Jay (talk) 17:29, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Otello
Caspian Blue asked me to find some recordings from Otello, and I got quite lucky:
Sure, there's recordings that have survived in somewhat better condition. But they aren't by the creator of the role =) Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 04:28, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Tosca recording
I've sat on this one a while, trying to get it right, and could use some advice, because I'm not sure if my computer is giving me a true sound or not.
Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 22:25, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I may as well upload this one as well:
I'm not sure how useable this one is - it seems a relatively tame version of the song - so I'll bow to others' judgement here. I could probably reduce the static rather more if it's worthwhile doing so. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 22:34, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
- I will listen later tonight, however, for Tosca, these are the noted arias, Vissi d'arte, Recondita armonia, E lucevan le stelle and O dolci mani - Jay (talk) 08:56, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- I am aware, and do have three out of four of those in preparation. =) Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 10:53, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

- They are ok but I do not think they are as worthy compared to Tosca noted arias as mentioned above. However, I have no issue if you want to upload them (but it is best if you could clear the noise at the background first). - Jay (talk) 15:21, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
- I can only listen via the original MP3 files you linked further up this page. So I can't comment on the sound quality of the new ogg's. I quite like Scotti's interpretation of "Gia mi dicon venal". I like introspective rather than beastly Scarpias.;-) Plus it's a key piece in Tosca even if it doesn't have the 'pop' appeal of the soprano and tenor arias. Mosco Carner goes on at great length about it. Voceditenore (talk) 15:43, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, well! I'll try and get a full set of Tosca stuff =)
This soprano's article is up for AfD, if anyone can offer insight please help. -- Banjeboi 03:24, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
