Not to be finicky, but shouldn't the category have a lowercase i? :)

I also think it might be wise to rename it - Melbourne institutions sounds like something more likely to refer to the Punters Club than the Local Government Association of Victoria. Ambi 06:01, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your correct, the category name should be Melbourne institutions with a lower case i. I've made the changes. As to the second part, I think Melbourne institutions is an appropriate title following the example of Category:British institutions. So far in the Melbourne project we have concentrated on the physical environment of Melbourne and the institutions category will allow us to build up articles on the social environment of the city. Perhaps an example of this is the recent article on the Royal Park Golf Course, while we do not yet have an article on the Royal Park Golf Club. Both are important in describing the physical and social environment, yet it is the social institution of the golf club which created the golf course.

There also needs to be work done on Category:Australian institutions and Category:Victorian institutions and for every other Australian state.

I reckon the Punters Club fits in as a cultural institution. I am still thinking through some of the issues, particularly between city/state/national differentiation.--Takver 10:45, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Progress update Feb 24, 2006

[edit]

I have included in this update the following categories:

  • Melbourne culture
  • Sporting clubs in Melbourne
  • Law
  • Tertiary education
  • 100 high schools
  • Labour and Industry
  • Media
  • Consumer organisations
  • Hospitals
  • Science

I estimate the total articles required at about 360. Of this total, 43 are complete, 54 are over 70% complete, 39 are estimated at 40 to 60% complete, 56 are basically stubs and 168 do not exist. The calculated overall progress for Melbourne institutions is 33%. Cuddy Wifter 22:48, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Progress update April 24, 2007

[edit]

On the assumption that 400 articles are now required in this section of the Melbourne Project, overall progress is estimated at 57%. We have 63 articles complete, 102 are over 70% complete, 116 are estimated at 40 to 60% complete, 106 are basically stubs and 13 do not exist. - Cuddy Wifter 06:31, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hospitals

[edit]

There are a number of defunct Melbourne hospitals which don't have pages such as Prince Henry's Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital (currently comes up as a link to the QV shopping precinct, which isn't appropriate IMHO), as well as current hospitals such as Thomas Embling Hospital and Maroondah Hospital. My current focus is on psychiatric hospitals and the Yarra Bend area so I'll work on TEH, but if someone else could work on the others... Shelbypark (talk) 07:41, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
