I just finished a significant expansion/overhaul of Richard Mentor Johnson, vice-president from Kentucky. I am about to nominate the article for GA status. As it sometimes takes a while to get an article reviewed, please stop by and bring your editorial prowess to bear. I've been staring at it too long for the last four days to catch many of the errors. I really believe that the article is close to, if not already, FA-worthy. That will be the next step, so edit it like it's already an FAC. Thanks for your help! Bluegrass barnstar bounty

I need some pictures, and I'm willing to go out on a limb here. I need pictures for all the articles on List of Civil War Monuments of Kentucky MPS. For each site you take pictures of and download for me that I don't already have, I will get to Start-class any Kentucky-related article you request, whether its now a stub or doesn't even exist. Take photos for five sites, and I'll hand out a Bluegrass barnstar.--Bedford 06:13, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm sure I've got a pic of the one in Russellville. I'll try to find it this weekend. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 12:48, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Found it! Image:CSA Memorial Russellville KY.png. I'd like to get a decent article about John Upshaw Waring (some works refer to him as John V. Waring). He killed Samuel Q. Richardson in 1835 and was shot to death in Versailles on March 7, 1845. He was also tangentially involved in the Beauchamp-Sharp Tragedy. Can't find enough biographical info to get a good article started. If you aren't able to find enough info about him, I'd settle for an article on the Bank of the Commonwealth. Thanks. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 23:22, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
I'll look up both in the Encyclopedia of Kentucky when I go to the library either Saturday or Monday (depends if/when I can get to Cynthiana this weekend)--Bedford 23:29, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Just ran across this as well. Apparently, Waring stabbed Henry Crittenden, a brother of John J. Crittenden in 1833. Strange that someone who killed so many people would seem to have so little written about him. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 00:19, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
The 1820 bank was what I was thinking of. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 02:13, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

I looked for Waring, and didn't find anything. Bank of the Commonwealth can mean two things: a bank on the NRHP in Shepherdsville, and the 1820 dismal failure.--Bedford 17:25, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Help with flag image

Can somebody help me in creating an appropriate fair use rationale for Image:Flag of Greenville Kentucky.PNG? Fair use seems impossibly arcane to me, but it seems that if we can use the logos of major companies under fair use, I ought to be able to justify my uploading of the flag of my dinky little hometown! Thanks in advance. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 21:34, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Kentucky Portal

The portal relevant to Kentucky has been promoted to featured status after one week of discussion. I realise this comes only a week after the Louisville promotion, so good work must be restless here. Congratulations. Rudget. 17:07, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Louisville's being the prototype for Kentucky's helped, as any problems Louisville was discovered to have could be fixed on Kentucky's as well.--Bedford 17:26, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Good job, Bedford! By the way, I just corrected some minor bugs from using Louisville as the prototype. I changed "Portal:Louisville" to "Portal:Kentucky" in many spots in the Biography section. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 02:52, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Of course, now I'm paranoid I might have done that on the Indy Portal, which I have just nominated.--Bedford 02:55, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Whitesburg, Kentucky, page

I'm new, so if this is the wrong place to put this, please let me know.

I've started a topic on the Whitesburg, Kentucky, discussion page about the naming of the town. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Letcherwater (talkcontribs) 16:37, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Help on two law cases

The article on the Old Court-New Court controversy is on the verge of passing GA, but I need some expansion for this comment:

In all, the New Court heard 77 cases during the Old Court-New Court controversy. In the April 1829 case of Hildreth's Heirs v. McIntire's Devisees, the reconstituted Court of Appeals declared all of these decisions void. In the later case of Smith v. Overstreet’s Adm’r, the court formally ruled that the decisions were not part of the common law of Kentucky.

Specifically, the reviewer would like to know what each of these cases was about. I can't find a reference to either via Google. I know one must exist in a Kentucky law book somewhere, but I don't know where to begin looking, and I'm about to head out on a business trip this weekend. Can someone help me out here? At least point me in the right direction for when I get back from my trip? Thanks. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 13:34, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Kentucky: Articles of unclear notability

Hello,

there are currently 10 articles in the scope of this project which are tagged with notability concerns. I have listed them here. (Note: this listing is based on a database snapshot of 12 March 2008 and may be slightly outdated.)

I would encourage members of this project to have a look at these articles, and see whether independent sources can be added, whether the articles can be merged into an article of larger scope, or possibly be deleted. Any help in cleaning up this backlog is appreciated. For further information, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Notability.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the Notability project page or on my personal talk page. (I'm not watching this page however.) Thanks! --B. Wolterding (talk) 16:55, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, it actually took more than a week this time for someone to tell me that the article I revamped on Richard Mentor Johnson needs a thorough copy-edit before it can pass FA. I should just start all of my FA noms by opposing myself and saying the article needs to be copy-edited. As is usually the case, I fear I'm too close to the prose (since I wrote almost all of it) to clean it up effectively. Would someone (or multiple someones) care to have a look? While you're there, please leave any additional comments you may have on the article's nomination page. Thanks. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 12:48, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Project change patrol restored to full glory this weekend

Starting sometime this weekend, JoshurBot will start regularly filling in the "Watchall" page that is utilized for project change patrol. The previous bot that performed this duty discontinued its service last August, and ever since, our ability to do comprehensive change patrol was degrading. I hope everyone finds this development helpful in their Wikipedia work. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 06:13, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Can anyone help out here or know if notable? I am a long way away....Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 09:38, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

New Mayor List Assistance

Lists of Mayors of Paducah, Kentucky (will soon be renamed to List of mayors of Paducah, Kentucky - slight error on my part) is up. There is a great link on the article for more information if someone has time to assist me in cleaning it up and filling in the missing parts. Thanks. Hooper (talk) 18:26, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

June Buchanan School article created

I just completed an article on The June Buchanan School in Pippa Passes. I know it is a short article, but it will do for now. I also want to do an in-depth article on June Buchanan herself. She co-founded Alice Lloyd College, my alma mater. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Willking1979 (talk) 21:20, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Just added the WP:KY template to all TV market templates which are Kentucky related with the exception of Louisville, which is under the jurisdiction of WikiProject Louisville, and the Huntington market, which is under the jurisdiction of WikiProject KYOVA. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! For the 1.0 Editorial Team, §hepBot (Disable) 21:38, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Alvin Wood

Hello! I just noticed that the article Alvin Wood is up for deletion. As a historical figure in Kentucky history, I thought your project should be made aware of it.--Paul McDonald (talk) 18:59, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Articles flagged for cleanup

Currently, 2976 articles are assigned to this project, of which 398, or 13.4%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 14 July 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. Subscribing is easy - just add a template to your project page. If you want to respond to this canned message, please do so at my user talk page. --B. Wolterding (talk) 11:22, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

The Cadiz Record nominated for speedy deletion

This article is about a year old and still has no content other than an existence statement and an external link. I tagged it for speedy deltion. - PennySpender1983 (talk) 02:29, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Kentucky

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 23:02, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Bluegrass Region merge into WP:KY?

WikiProject Bluegrass Region has been dormant for quite a while. Should we consider merging this project into WP:KY? Since the Lexington metro area is wholly inside Kentucky, it wouldn't pose any geographical issues. I think this merger might do something to bring more attention to the Lexington-related articles. Any thoughts? Stevie is the man! TalkWork 03:23, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

There's a reason why I made Lexington in the American Civil War at WP:KY, not WP Bluegrass. The experiment is over; wrap it back in. I wonder if we could get a bot to make all the changes?--Gen. Bedford his Forest 03:32, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
There's only 219 articles in the Bluegrass Region project at this time. We may as well change the articles over manually. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 04:18, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
When you guys are ready to make these changes, let me know, I'd be happy to help. §hep¡Talk to me! 00:17, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
I've already moved some articles over. Feel free to help with the rest. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 17:49, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
The only ones left to move are the Unassessed, 106 articles and 6 other pages. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 18:07, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
OK, all done now. Now, I guess we need to check into deleting all the Bluegrass project files. Ugh. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 17:28, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Courthouse Photos

Several unused courthouse photos are here. Help is needed adding them to their respective county pages by adding the following to the County Infobox template

|ex image = courthouse image filename.jpg

|ex image cap = xxx County Courthouse in xxxx, Kentucky

-Ichabod (talk) 20:26, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

For the record, we are missing five, all of which are in the Purchase area of western Kentucky.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 06:48, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
This has been completed. We are missing the following counties. Once photos are uploaded, users can cross them off the list. --Ichabod (talk) 03:02, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Carlisle currently doesn't have a courthouse, as it was destroyed by fire. I heard its sharing a courthouse right now in another county, with a clerk office still in the county seat of Bardwell, a town where a tornado could go thru and do $3million in improvements.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 03:25, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
For some reason Casey County's courthouse image was deleted, so Casey County needs a courthouse image. --Ichabod (talk) 02:51, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Kentucky articles needing geographic coordinates

29 articles in Category:Kentucky articles missing geocoordinate data do not have geographic coordinates. Coords are useful for making the article appear on Google Maps & many other mapping services; and they allow our users to click through to see the article subject location on a map. There's a short guide to on how to add geocodes to articles ... it really is very easy to do. I hope you'll take some time to ensure that Kentucky is as well represented as it can be on wikipedia by fixing up the listed articles. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:08, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Article Alerts

As this is one of the more active state projects, I figured I'd stop by. I was wondering if you had come across this nifty bot? If you're interested we have a working model at WP:OH and are also running the separate workflows on subpages so you can see how those work out. I hope you guys might find this message useful! §hep¡Talk to me! 00:19, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Looks like a good idea to me. I'd like to give it a shot, anyway. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 02:53, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
I don't have much time to look at it, but if somebody can explain how this bot can be made to work with our current alerts system, that would be interesting to implement. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 04:29, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
I'll be happy to help as much as I can. To setup the alerts system {{User:ArticleAlertbot/Subscription|display=(plain, columns, box, none)|archivetime=# (in days)|banner=WikiProject Kentucky}} would be added to the project's page. A page would be created at Wikipedia:WikiProject Kentucky/Article alerts. This page could then be transcluded wherever you wanted it. If you only wanted, say, Afds to appear, you could add to the subscription |workflows=AFD or others based on this page. To add them to your current alerts system you would add something like:
== Current alerts ==
{{Wikipedia:WikiProject Kentucky/Alerts/content}}
{{Wikipedia:WikiProject Kentucky/Article alerts}}

With the only new addition being the bolded text. This category lists all projects which currently use the service. I hope this was helpful and I didn't go in circles too much. §hep¡Talk to me! 21:36, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Sounds to be worthwhile at least for a test. Go ahead and set it up if you want to. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 04:14, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
The page has been generated here. §hep¡Talk to me! 16:22, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
OK, I've added these auto-generated alerts to our alert displays. Manual alerts can still be added as before. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 08:33, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
