Art collective infobox

[edit]

Hello all, I have designed an infobox to be used for art collectives (as at the moment the options are either the artist or organisation infoboxes, neither which really fit). It is over here in my sandbox and would love any feedback on the infobox or advice on if it is ready to be published. Thank you! -- NotCharizard 🗨 07:18, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Website should probably be at the very bottom, no? Remsense ‥  08:51, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i had thought about it, but then it would be in the “art” section. do you recommend any alternative formatting/heading? -- NotCharizard 🗨 14:50, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd just give it its own section. Remsense ‥  14:56, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, of course. Cheers, I have done that, I've also updated the example. -- NotCharizard 🗨 19:23, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Does anyone have any issues with me publishing this infobox? -- NotCharizard 🗨 00:06, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request for comment

Should the infobox template for countries be expanded to include greenhouse gas emissions? See the request at Template talk:Infobox country#Request for comment on greenhouse emissions

No. There are lots of major problems that countries face -- nuclear stockpile, number of incarcerated residents, number of impoverished residents. All these things should be discussed in the article, but we should keep infoboxes concise. Indeed, we should be considering what we can remove from infoboxes which are, by necessity, redundant, as they are restating facts that should already be stated and referenced in the article. -- -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:31, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DIY combo table-infobox for ship article

[edit]

The article BAP Carrasco has a non-Wikitable class table with Infoboxes embedded in the cells, to make what in the end, looks like one Infobox. Is this (or was this) a standard way of creating them? Mathglot (talk) 05:52, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's how {{infobox ship}} has always functioned (see the usage guide), though the decision was made to merge the templates back in 2022 (which apparently hasn't happened yet). Parsecboy (talk) 10:28, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that's kind of a surprise. Well, I can see why they haven't been merged yet, as it would be a fair bit of work. Even just updating the doc page would be non-trivial. Thanks for the update.
I don't feel like taking it on just now, but as a template editor, at first glance I think I see how I would approach it if I wanted to do this, which would be in three major steps (with some sub-tasks, not shown):
  1. Write a wrapper template, not based on invoking {{Infobox}}, but rather on all four of the individual templates now described on the usage guide page, the goal being to render an Infobox exactly as you have now using the individual templates, but via only one template (the wrapper), instead of several. A new doc page could be written for the wrapper, looking just like a standard Infobox doc page.
  2. Write a second, transitional wrapper, that would automatically pull existing param values from the wikicode of the four ship templates on the page using {{tmpv}} and then invoke the main wrapper with those values, obviating the need to convert existing articles to use the wrapper. Three new lines would be needed per article to transition: one line to invoke the transitional wrapper, and one <includeonly>...</includeonly> pair surrounding the existing four ship templates.
  3. After a period of usage to shake out any issues, bugs, or questions, write a new template in the sandbox which would invoke {{Infobox}} and duplicate the output of the wrapper. Releasing it should be seamless, and not visible to users of it. In theory, the doc page would need no updates at all, if properly written for the wrapper. Existing articles could be converted to the new, single template if desired, or just keep using the transitional wrapper, which should look identical. Future ship articles would just use the single template from step 3.
Maybe if I get the time some time later, I'll do it. Mathglot (talk) 10:53, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
