Article list for this blitz
[edit]In case it is not clear, articles eligible for this blitz are listed in the collapsed section headed "Biographical article list for the blitz". – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:58, 18 August 2017 (UTC)
- Which category did you use to generate the list? When I cross "living people" with "all articles needing copy edit" I get 273 articles. – Reidgreg (talk) 19:12, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
- All the articles on the list have been tagged for over 6 months. CoolieCoolster (talk) 19:15, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
- Ah, Jan and Feb. How can I copyedit instructions and then not use them? Scatterbrained from multi-tasking. – Reidgreg (talk) 01:49, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
- Here's the Petscan query for BLPs in the oldest two months of the backlog. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:04, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
- Doesn't seem to work for me (almost certainly an issue at my end). But I can use Special:Search/incategory:"Wikipedia articles needing copy edit from January 2017" incategory:"living people" and Special:Search/incategory:"Wikipedia articles needing copy edit from February 2017" incategory:"living people" which provides a fair amount of info for choosing articles. – Reidgreg (talk) 15:15, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

New copy editor review
[edit]I've reviewed the first two articles copyedited by Pratim from Lakhuria, left notes on the user's talk page with copyediting advice and resources, and pointed out specific issues with the two articles. The account was created on August 10 and has less than 50 edits, so I also suggested that the user consider working with WikiProject India (for their subject interest) or Wikipedia:Translation (for their skill set) until they are more familiar with Wikipedia's writing style. – Reidgreg (talk) 19:47, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
- Three other editors with less than 60 edits on their accounts joined the blitz. I left them notes and will try to provide assistance. – Reidgreg (talk) 15:01, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
Sorry for not joining the blitz
[edit]Hi! I just wanted to apologize for not joining the blitz. I was busy with other projects and forgot that the blitz was taking place until it ended. I will try to pay more attention to when the next drive starts (which I assume will be on September 1, 2017), and hopefully, I will remember to join that drive and help work down the backlog. - Although it's easy to forget anyway, due to other projects/other obligations in life, one helpful method I use for knowing when a blitz is taking place is something I call "the prediction method". I'm not sure if that's a technical or recognized term. Anyway, knowing the pattern by which the blitz drives are named, I add the page for the next one to my watchlist while it's still a red link, so that the moment the page is started and the announcement of when the blitz will begin is made, I'm aware of it. Hope that helps! A lot of good editing can happen in ten years. (talk) 04:21, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Wilhelmina Will:: Thanks for the suggestion! I will add Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Backlog elimination drives/September 2017 to my watchlist right now. Thanks again for the suggestion! Noah Kastin (talk) (🖋) 04:26, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- Noah Kastin, Yes, the next drive will start on September 1; we'll be putting up the new drive page shortly. Probably the most efficient way to keep track of GOCE events via your watchlist would be to add Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Ombox, which is the special page for the announcement box at the top of GOCE pages. Tdslk (talk) 15:40, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- Watching the Ombox page is definitely the best way. I can't think of a time in the last few years when we have forgotten to update it. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:38, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Tdslk and Jonesey95: Thanks for the suggestions! I actually am watching the Ombox page; I just didn't pay enough attention to it. I will try to pay more attention next time. Thanks again for the suggestions! Noah Kastin (talk) (🖋) 23:08, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- Funny thing, I actually just added the Ombox to my watchlist this morning. But oh look! It just got updated to announce the September drive. Cool. Tdslk (talk) 23:19, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
