How were they chosen?
[edit]I love the idea of picking out a few good articles for showcase. How were they chosen? J Milburn (talk) 11:35, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, I made ramdom selections for this month, as we were in a hurry. I chose one article from each section of the GAN page, although not all sections were included. I'd like to have a better selection process for next month, though... — ΛΧΣ21™ 14:08, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
- Some possibilities off the top of my head:
- Articles with the most interwiki links. This is the fast and dirty way we judge importance in the WikiCup; it's generally a pretty good yardstick.
- Articles which have high views. This is less reliable, from my own experience, as it skews towards pop culture and recent events. However, some people like it.
- Articles which are now at FAC/have recently been promoted at FAC. This would highlight the good work GAC does as a stepping-stone to FAC, as well as favouring the higher-quality articles for the spotlight.
- Articles from new good article contributors. This would serve to encourage newcomers to the project, but it almost certainly wouldn't track the notably high-quality, high-importance or most interesting articles.
- Selection from a few regular reviewers: This would perhaps find a balance, but may overlook some definitely worthwhile.
- A mix; you could perhaps have a couple with high interwiki numbers, one which has progressed to FAC, a couple from newbies and one oddball; a choice from someone (who doesn't matter) that strikes them as particularly interesting. Anything from WP:ODD would be ideal.
- As I say, I think this is a really nice idea, so it's one worth spending some time on, I suspect. J Milburn (talk) 15:29, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
- OMG Thanks. Yous suggestions are really useful :) I like them all [including the FAC one, which is my favourite]. If you like, you can help us doing this part of the newsletter. ANy help is highly appreciated. — ΛΧΣ21™ 15:38, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
