Suggestion
Thanks for getting this off the ground, Meclee. It has occurred to me that it may be good to invite yet-another group of editors, those working on articles such as Anti-globalization movement and related anti-globalization articles. Such topics will certainly fall within the scope of this project, and we'll probably want to bring those articles up to quality standards as well. John Shandy` • talk 17:57, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! I've put a notice on the page. Meclee (talk) 18:33, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
- To help, I've added a request for an advert in The Signpost, stating that this is a new project and is open to invite new members. Not too sure if it will be in time to make the next edition (which should be out already). Cheers, Zangar (talk) 01:03, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
Good start
I think we're off to a good start; we have a lot of the formal framework in place. However, that framework should only be a means to an end - improving articles on globalisation! Some of the general high-level articles are in a surprisingly poor state - I'm rolling up my sleeves... bobrayner (talk) 22:50, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you, bobrayner, and all who have contributed to the Project page! BTW, don't forget to add the banner
{{WikiProject Globalization|class=|importance=}}
to articles you edit! Meclee (talk) 17:01, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
- Have completed adding the WP:Globalization banner to all articles & categories identified during the WikiProject proposal process as being related to Globalization. Regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 04:33, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Assessment table
- Well done, I've manually run the assessment bot and it's now updated the assessment table, but I don't think it's quite captured all the categories/templates/project pages yet - we might need to wait for an automatic run. Well done to everyone for setting this project up, I wish you luck with it in the future! Cheers, Zangar (talk) 09:18, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- I already ran the bot when doing the initial setup. Is anything still not being picked up? bobrayner (talk) 19:27, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

One odd thing about the assessment bot is that, with one exception, all of the categories are showing up as 'NA' rather than as categories. Not sure why... Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 04:14, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
- I've forced another manual run and it now seems to have captured all the categories along with the Project and Template pages as well. That was odd, perhaps it was just to do with database lag, but it should be ok now. Cheers, Zangar (talk) 09:14, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Medicine
We at Wikiproject medicine are working to improve and translate 80 key articles into as many other languages as possible as per here [1]. Would of course love help. --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (please reply on my talk page) 00:18, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- I support this project. It is amazing and of great international relevance. Please check it out - it is highly relevant and it would be great to have WikiProject Globalization join us in thinking about how to manage Wikipedia translation projects. Blue Rasberry (talk) 01:58, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Globalization navigation template
I've started a Globalization navigation template and would encourage its use at the bottom of key WP:Globalization articles. Contributions towards its further development are most welcome! Regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 08:09, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- Super! Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld! Meclee (talk)

Discussion at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2012_July_7
You are invited to join the discussion at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2012_July_7. several categories related to this project have been nominated for merging KarlB (talk) 16:13, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
Please note that we need to:
- Provide better explanations of our major categories on their category pages;
- Avoid over-categorization of articles by not placing an article in several 'Globalization' categories.
I have opposed the rationale to delete or merge these categories. Other member comments are needed and welcome. Meclee (talk) 16:27, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
Personal status
Just FYI: I am moving households and will be mostly offline from WP until late August, 2012. You can still leave a message on my talk page, just don't expect a quick response ;) Meclee (talk) 22:03, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

My present focus
Since I signed up for this project expressing an intent to work on topics relating to economic globalization such as trade and finance, and also globalization's implications for developing countries, I thought I'd share with you all what I am presently working on. I set out a while back to substantially revamp and improve often-neglected articles on international finance and economics topics, many of which don't even come close to meeting WP:V, WP:NOR, and WP:NPOV, putting them even further away from achieving GA or FA status. Fortunately, WikiProject Globalization started at the right time to further my motivation to tackle my project pipeline even harder this summer.
This month and last month, I've completely rewritten and revamped the articles for four of the five member institutions of the World Bank Group.
- International Finance Corporation (Before - After; Promoted to GA status )
- Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (Before - After; Nominated and awaiting GA review)
- International Development Association (Before - After)
- International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (Before - After)
I plan to revise the 5th member institution, International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, and then improve the World Bank and World Bank Group articles. Flowing on from there, I intend to make some improvements to International Monetary Fund, then Bretton Woods system, International financial institutions, and International financial system. I've adopted a "from the ground up" approach because I think some of these higher order articles really should follow from and draw on the articles about detail concepts or specific institutions. So that's what I've been up to. John Shandy` • talk 20:56, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- Great! I cannot express how awesome this is :) benzband (talk) 21:06, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- That's nice work. Is there anything I can help with? bobrayner (talk) 21:34, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I plan to nominate more of them for GA review, but WP:GAN is pretty backlogged (lol, as if it ever isn't?), and I presently have 3 GA nominations awaiting reviews under the Economics and business section. If anyone is interested and experienced enough, they could review Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, or encourage any reviewers they know with spare time to do so. I'm pretty good on the amount of sources I've gathered for my current projects, but more are always welcome (I've already hit the major intergovernmental, governmental, and academic ones). I found some good stuff for the IBRD in the Financial Times, but my free subscription is maxed out for July and I'm in between jobs at the moment and not able to shell out $49 for a month's access, so I'm waiting until August 1st to access them. Other than that, I think I just need enough weekend barbecues, beverages, and sleep to keep chugging along. John Shandy` • talk 22:11, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

- Great work, John Shandy, thanks for the update! I'm placing the 'WikiProject Globalization' tag on talk pages of your article list on the Project talk page as that template is how the various Project-related bots know to associate the articles with WikiProject Globalization. I was just thinking that we need to add some 'International Finance' links to the Globalization navigation template. In general, International finance-related articles should be there. I've not added any of the articles to any of the Globalization categories, per se, as several of their top-level categories have already been added to a Category:Globalization sub-category. Personal status - return
Hello, all! I've gotten moved, although still doing settling-in chores. So, I'm back online at least part-time. @John Shandy - I see your GA nominations are languishing. I will try to get to those soon. Meclee (talk) 07:00, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
Expatriate, Emigrant and people "of descent" categories
I am sure this is not the first time this question has come up, but does this project claim any sort of oversight on categories such as Category:American expatriates in Sweden, Category:People of Moroccan descent and Category:Italian emigrants to Brazil? I ask because I am looking for existing standards on these categories. I am mostly an editor for the various basketball projects, and players commonly move across borders so these types of categories are use a lot. Lately I have noticed some category heirarchy that doesn't make sense to me. For example, in the case of the American expatriates in Sweden category, it is a sub-category of Category:Swedish people of American descent. That does not seem correct to me - an American expatriate by definition is not a "Swedish person." This structure seems to exist for many of these categories. My other question is about categories like "People of Moroccan descent." What has prompted me to ask for clarity is that this category has caused a minor edit war on Mike Flynn (basketball). This is the case of an American citizen born to American parents in Casablanca. I would think he wouldn't qualify for "of Moroccan descent" just because he happened to be born there, but would prefer to follow an existing standard and be able to put this to rest. Can anyone here help me? Am I in the right place to bring these things? I have also posed the same question to the International Relations and Sociology Wikiprojects. Rikster2 (talk) 13:56, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry it has taken so long for a reply. The short answer is: no, we do not claim such oversight. My suggestion is to look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography. If they do not have such guidelines already, they should be interested in developing. Meclee (talk) 15:14, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
GA Reviews
The following articles have received an initial GA Review with a note that I will await 10 days for further review/comments before moving into GA status:

- International Bank for Reconstruction and Development - GA nominated by John Shandy`
- International Development Association - GA nominated by John Shandy`

- Wow, thanks so much for reviewing these for me. I've had them listed at WP:GAN#ECON so long I'd almost started to forget about them. Cheers, John Shandy` • talk 19:02, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- You are quite welcome. Apologies for not getting to it sooner. This weekend, if there are no edit requests added, I'll move them to GA status. Meclee (talk) 20:57, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
