What is this about?

I created this page as both a sort of explanation to users who come to Wikipedia expecting to see certain D&D articles about fictional elements and wondering what happened to them (thus the title of this page), as well as a brief guide for interested editors who wish to preserve the material that we currently have and who want to try to restore some of what we have lost. Obviously, not all of it and not even most of it will ever be notable enough to be restored, but we have lost some things along the way that should never have gone away. I tried to write this page both in a neutral tone in terms of notability (I have my own feelings regarding using the notability guidelines to delete articles, as you can imagine) and in a hopeful tone regarding how material can be improved.

So, I think this is a good place to talk about articles that may have some potential. I think that preservation efforts should begin and focus on the articles that still exist, but of course if you find enough sources to restore something then I do not see why you should wait.  :) A good example of restoring an article is the sources was what AugusteBlanqui able to do with Corellon Larethian, and I think the most impressive save I have seen in a long time was what Sariel Xilo did at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Menzoberranzan (2nd nomination). I would also like to acknowledge Daranios for finding sources for monster articles.  :) Hopefully there is no one I missed, but all are welcome to participate in adding sources.

As far as restoring articles that have been redirected or deleted, this should be done sparingly, but as often as appropriate. There are many redirected articles. If you find sufficient sourcing to at least make a case that you have met the WP:GNG, let me know and I will restore it for you as I did with the Correllon article, and we can add the sources to the article; do not be surprised if it is challenged again, but hopefully with new sources added we stand a better chance of retaining the article.

Hopefully these efforts will get us some equilibrium, and get us to a better point where it feels like we can actually keep some of the important fictional elements from this long-running game and its associated fiction.  :) BOZ (talk) 20:48, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks! :) I forgot to mention above, but in the list of possible restorations, I tried to stick with ones that do have at least one RS which gives it at least a starting point at establishing notability. There are probably a bunch more that I could add to that list, but I figure a smaller list is better. BOZ (talk) 23:53, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

I only recently became involved with AfD. Probably will have limited/minimal participation going forward although I learned about wikiproject article rescue and may join. Was there a list article of monsters or something deleted in November that could be an easy save? However, I admit that it seems that my interpretation of list notability is more generous than the typical AfD participant. AugusteBlanqui (talk) 10:18, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

There were several monster list articles deleted recently, but I doubt any of them would be an easy save. The sole surviving 2nd edition monster list was barely saved, and they will try to delete it again at some point in the future. BOZ (talk) 18:32, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
