T20I

[edit]

I was trying to figure out a way of writing what we currently have in a way that isn't hideously complex - and failing. I think we need to say something along the lines of:

  • played in a match involving a full-member - at any date
  • played in a match involving two associate members before 1 July 2018 - but is this date different for men and women?
  • after 1 July 2018, played in a match involving two associate members in a World T20 (men or women), Global Qualifier (men or women), or Regional Final (men only)

Is that it? Blue Square Thing (talk) 09:27, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this is number one my list to fix in relation to NCRIC. For point 2, I think they are the same date, as I seem to recall the ICC back-dating the status for women who played in a WT20I qualifer tournament (either Malaysia or Thailand). Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:14, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I though the men's date was later? 1 Jan 2019 is what was announced, although they may have changed it - it seems almost impossible to find such news on the ICC website... Blue Square Thing (talk) 13:38, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Benson & Hedges Cup - List A?

[edit]

Doesn't the Benson & Hedges Cup count as a list A tournament, and hence the matches as List A?Nigel Ish (talk) 12:25, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Good spot - thanks for that. I've now added it. The list is very much a work-in-progress, and if you spot anything else that should be included, please feel free to add it. Thanks again! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:46, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

University/other first-class cricket?

[edit]

Is it worth saying something about First-class university matches - even if it is an exclusion as they probably don't (all) count as being at the highest level - similarly for historical Scotland vs Ireland matches?Nigel Ish (talk) 13:32, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I see now we have a rule that first-class MCC university matches 2010–2019 don't count - what about first class university matches prior to 2010 (i.e. Oxford or Cambridge vs county sides or Oxford vs Cambridge) - some of these matches will still have had a fair amount of press coverage (and probably increasing the further we go back in time) - certainly much more than the 2010–19 matches, although much will be in off-line sources. In addition, what about tour matches? - these are explicitly mentioned in the ICC Official cricket document.Nigel Ish (talk) 10:52, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree that the further back you go the more obviously notable the people who played in OU and CU matches tend to be - and British Universities etc... Looking at what we have, perhaps we could add in the UCCE matches from 2001 (I think) with the MCCU ones?
Beyond that, we can probably use the GNG fallback position as the catch all - i.e. if they played in these matches with plenty of coverage, there will be sources so they'll be OK to include. Especially if they played in a bunch of them - tbh there's often coverage of their professional lives or their school cricket as well, which really helps meet the sort of GNG criteria. Does that make sense? Blue Square Thing (talk) 13:11, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Questions about some English ones not listed

[edit]

The Women's Regional T20 is the T20 tournament that's related to the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy- should it therefore be considered a notable tournament? I think so, similar to how a man playing in T20 Blast would be presumed notable (even if they haven't played in the County Championship). Also, I have a question about The Hundred (cricket): whilst it's barely cricket, it seems to at least as much coverage as other English domestic men's and women's tournaments. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:45, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The hundred probably is at least equivalent notability wise to the T20 blast - although I suspect that everybody involved will already be notable from involvement in other formats - it's not like they are filing the teams with inexperienced newcomers.Nigel Ish (talk) 15:03, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think there was a discussion about tH, which ended with the assumption that we'd add it when it starts. Can anyone remember? It's obviously significant and notable - it'll go under T20 (20x5 ball overs). Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:13, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Women's T20 also seems reasonable to add once it's started - I don't remember if there was any discussion about this, but given the crossover with the RHF it seems reasonable to do so. Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:19, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Hundred (men's and women's) will be added when the tournament begins, same with the Regional T20, if the coverage is sufficient (which I imagine it will be) from the discussion. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 15:28, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Some more T20 leagues for completeness

[edit]

I used Template:Twenty20 leagues to find some more Twenty20 leagues. Lots of them seem like players in the leagues are obviously not notable, but would be good to list them anyway (in the other cricket section). Adding my suggestions of notable or not:

Thoughts would be good, but if nobody objects, I will add them in a few days time. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:05, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've added these, was an oversight in my part. I agree with all of the comments, of all three additions all the players seem notable. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 16:24, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Commonwealth Games

[edit]

Two new competitions coming up to consider: the Commonwealth Games Cricket Tournament and its 2022 Commonwealth Games Cricket Qualifier. Obviously the Commonwealth Games itself is mainly already covered, as T20Is between full members, but two things to question:

  • The Qualifier – isn't specially covered by the rules at the moment as it isn't an ICC Global Qualifier, but it nearly is on that level, so does this need to be added?
  • Barbados – Barbados have qualified as the West Indian representative, and will therefore play T20Is at the CG, but aren't themselves a full member. I would definitely argue that this should confer notability on the players involved (Also, an associate member may qualify for the tournament).

So, I think that the Commonwealth Games itself needs to be added to the list explicitly to cover for Barbados/qualifiers, and a decision needs to be made on whether the Qualifier counts as a Global tournament and therefore needs to be added. Mpk662 (talk) 18:06, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We must wait and see if the vast majority of players have GNG-level coverage (or show that they already do) before adding/changing anything in this regard. Ignoring GNG and making arbitrary changes will be a quick way back to NSPORT and discussing the merits of NCRIC (again). wjematherplease leave a message... 18:20, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Most, if not all of the players either have an existing article, as they already play for a full member team of the ICC. I doubt many, if any, of the Kenyan team will get an article anytime soon, and they'll probably finish 4th or 5th in the qualifier in any case. I don't know about the status of matches featuring Barbados at the CWG. I think it's wrong to assume they'll have T20I status, esp. going on the utter farce the ICC made of WODI status (or lack of) for the 2021 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament. Just ask the USA and Thailand teams... Don't most of the Barbados players represent the West Indies, or have played in the WBBL? Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 20:06, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting - thanks for bringing it up. My gut feeling is that the qualifiers by themselves are unlikely to be at the level to definitely support notability - as Lugnuts says, Kenya in particular. It looks like most of the Barbadians will be notable anyway. CWG is likely to lead to more coverage, so that might suggest notability for participants - but I guess we should sort of wait and see what happens. Blue Square Thing (talk) 21:10, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks all for your inputs. Reporting so far does say that all matches will be T20Is (ie here) but I agree on remembering the precedent set with the WC Qualifier. Don't think we should assume that all players playing will already have notability from other sources - Barbados haven't played a match since early 2019 so the squad on their page, whilst it only has one player without a page, is likely out of date. Also, I'm not sure how full-strength squads are going to be at the CG, depending on schedule clashes + how seriously teams take the tournament. But overall I agree we need to wait and see, just raising it now so there isn't confusion when the Qualifier/the tournament proper starts. Mpk662 (talk) 22:08, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

About notable

[edit]

Hi @Lugnuts: and @AssociateAffiliate:, Recently Sri Lankan cricket had started their domestic limited overs cricket i.e 50 overs. Can we pressumed this league as notable? I hope for your positive response. Thank you! Fade258 (talk) 12:16, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fade. The league itself would be notable (top-level competition with LA status), but players making their debut would not be, per this. In other words, if a cricketer Luggy McNuts made his LA debut in the league, he wouldn't automatically pass the notability threshold, unless there was other coverage of him. Hope that helps. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:19, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Lugnuts. Thank you for your response. I clearly understood your above response. Can you tell me, Can I create the separate article for this competition i.e National Super League. Fade258 (talk) 12:25, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If it's a new league, then I don't see any issue with that. Although the Sri Lankan domestic setup goes through a rebranding pretty much every other season. Just check to see if it's simply not a renaming of an existing tournament, such as the Inter-Provincial Limited Over Tournament or the Premier Limited Overs Tournament, for example. Might be best just to redirect SLC National Super League to this 2021–22 article for the meantime. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:28, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Fade258: Sure you can go ahead and create that league if it is a List A league :) And what Lugnuts says too, I've lost track of the number of leagues which appear each season in Sri Lanka!!! StickyWicket (talk) 12:29, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If it is a new competition, we don't need both a main article and individual season articles until there is more than one season, since all content can easily be accommodated in a single article. wjematherplease leave a message... 12:33, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both of you for clarifying me. Can we change this article name to 2022 SLC National Super League which has been already redirected? Fade258 (talk) 12:35, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Domestic T20 League

[edit]

Hi @Joseph2302, Rugbyfan22, Blue Square Thing, Wjemather, and Lugnuts:, Those franchise tournaments and leagues which didn't hold full List A or T20 status, then Does we have a authority to tagged as a AFD or not? Cheers! Fade258 (talk) 11:06, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You can tag any article you wish for AfD. For any tournament not holding LA/T20 status, then WP:GNG would apply. I think most of those tournaments do pass the basic notability levels. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:44, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok! Thank you for your thoughts on this. Fade258 (talk) 09:47, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Under-19 T20 franchise tournament

[edit]

Hi all, Would we consider this tournament as a notable tournament? Fade258 (talk) 15:05, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, as per my reply, above. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:44, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding this I am little bit confused beacuse this league is newly developed franchise tournament by Pakistan Cricket Board. Fade258 (talk) 09:50, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There look to be plenty of references to it in the media, so that probably means it passes WP:GNG, WP:ORG etc... Blue Square Thing (talk) 10:19, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Official T20 league

[edit]

Hi @Lugnuts, Blue Square Thing, and Bs1jac:, Recently Cricket Association of Nepal had decided to organise its official T20 franchise tournament called NepalT20 League. Can we add this league in official T20 section? Fade258 (talk) 07:57, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing the league itself would pass WP:GNG, but I doubt the status of the matches would be T20, but other T20, as per franchise leagues in other non-Test playing nations (Global Canada springs to mind). Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:01, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The tricky thing here is the terminology. We have heard things like "official" and "ICC sanctioned" before (e.g. GlobalT20 in Canada), and yet the games have not actually had "T20" status (at least according to Cricinfo). The whole status thing is a very cloudy area, with loads of tournaments or series not getting T20?list A status when they probably should due to being at least as good as some other series that do! Bs1jac (talk) 08:01, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I also confused regarding naming of this league where CAN itself called NepalT20. Still I confused about naming of this league. Fade258 (talk) 10:33, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You can create that like how DPL or EPL or PPL or those other Nepalese leagues are created but I am nit interested to help you there. Human (talk) 01:13, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Women's premier league

[edit]

Women's T20 Challenge is replaced by Women's Premier League. Does the new tournament count? 2400:4A60:2001:2C7:5C7:E1B4:1D82:2C94 (talk) 11:37, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New Leagues

[edit]

Where shall these new leagues be considered in notability criteria? (a) ILT20 in UAE (b) SA20 in South Africa (c) Women's Premier League in India (d) Pakistan Women's T20 League

Please update and review the page.

Ireland and Afghanistan

[edit]

Hello, I've noticed that Irish and Afghan top level tournaments are not deemed notable despite being First Class/List A/T20 status games run by a Full Member board. Is this a remnant from before full membership and if not why is it still in place? CarnivalSorts (talk) 12:38, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
