Suggestions for the programme
[edit]Is this where we suggest programme ideas? Just recording that I would love to have a brief session on do's and don'ts of translating Wikipedia pages into English. Also I think having a session on nominating DYKs is good. We could also do a group QPQ - ie as a group we go through and assess a DYK together so that people can see how to use the template and how all the different assessment tools are used. Some ideas already contributed:
- Workflow to get a new article promoted in the Did You Know section of the front page of Wikipedia
- Workflow to assess someone else's DYK nomination for a QPQ
- OpenRefine User catch up and compare of workflows/resources
- How to Translate pages from one language Wikipedia into another
- Wikisource workflow
- GLAM/Sum of All Paintings workflow used by User:Ambrosia10. (This is a workflow for using public images & metadata sourced from smaller GLAM institutions who have a presence on the web but don't provide an API or alternative to download images/data in bulk. Add suggestions here
[edit]The best way I think to do this is to add an idea for a talk, workshop, panel, skill-share to the table below: either one you'd like to see, or one you could talk about. You can vote with your favourite emoji. Remember if you vote for everything you're voting for nothing! —Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 19:20, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

GLAM/Sum of All Paintings workflow. A manual workflow for openly licensed or public domain images of objects/artworks held by GLAMs. I have used this particular workflow for images sourced from institutions that don't have an API or any other way to bulk download content and data. The workflow can be adapted and doesn't have to be just for paintings but can also be used for images of other content suitable for upload into WikiCommons. Should the original objects be Wikidata worthy, this workflow provides guidance on how to create items for the objects in Wikidata and how to link the metadata describing the object in Wikidata to the image of the object in WikiCommons. | Ambrosia10 | ✅✅ | Used for Sargeant Gallery paintings |

New Zealand species workflow for WikiCommons, Wikidata and Wikipedia. Showing how to upload images into WikiCommons including from iNaturalist, expanding Wikidata items for species, creating Wikipedia articles. Reusing Wikipedia articles and WikiCommons images in iNaturalist. Using the author disambiguator tool to link species authors to articles describing species in Wikidata, then using Wikidata item for authors to connect authors to specimens they have collected via Bionomia Tracker. | Ambrosia10 | ✅ ✅ ✅ |
Field Trip voting
[edit]Same deal: put a tick or two beside the field trips that most appeal. Feel free to ask questions or make suggestions and improvements.

Field trip to Ross, a nearby gold-mining settlement, to Wikify it. Ross has some notable historic buildings, a small museum with a replica of NZ's largest gold nuggets. We could photograph buildings and streets, get them into Wikidata and improve the sad Commons collection and article, maybe get access to the museum artefacts to photograph. | ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
Revell Street photography walk. We want to photograph every current building and site on Hokitika's historic main street, and then put them in Wikidata; this will help a future effort to create an interactive historic map, where someone could drag a slider and see buildings pop up and down on a map. | ✅ ✅ ✅
Skill-sharing workshop in the Digital Learning Centre, Westland District Library – best when there are one or more topics that need a big-screen walk through (also an option if it rains). Please add topics you'd like to share or learn about. | ✅☔️ ✅✅ | See other people's Open Refine / Wikidata workflows |
A Luminaries walk, visiting and photographing downtown heritage buildings and identifying photos of places that appeared in the book, followed by work on multiple-language editions of the book in Westland District Library. | ✅
Nature walk in nearby coastal forest (Lake Mahinapua – needs work – and Jum Michel walk) with one or more bush-savvy guides; including nature photography, plant identification, and uploads to Commons. | ✅✅✅✅✅
Trip to photograph graves in Hokitika Cemetery, including Stanley Graham, John Lazar, and Ebenezer Teichelmann. Heritage Hokitika can give us a list; they may even want to join us as a guide. | ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅ |
Suggested addition to Saturday Morning programme options
[edit]Could someone familiar with Source editing please add a topic "Attracting and supporting new editors". Thanks Noracrentiss (talk) 07:54, 1 March 2021 (UTC) - done Ambrosia10 (talk) 18:13, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
