Different artworks? Different pages?..

[edit]

Hello editors,

I have a question about Follow my dreams page. It is about a hand-painted mural by the italian artist TVBoy in 2022 in the city of Barcelona. This mural was originally called "Super Alexia" where you could read in the background the phrase: "Follow your dreams" with the footballer Alexia Putellas stepped out painted in a Superwoman outfit with a cape clearly visible on her back. In 2023, due to the multitude of vandalism acts, the artist decided to redo the mural, but neither the phrase nor the drawing of the player were the same. You can see the clear differences with the 2022 painting: [1] and the 2023 updated painting: [2]

In the Talk:Follow my dreams I proposed to make different articles because the new painting of 2023 should be treated as a completely different one even if it is located in the same place and on top of the old painting. The painting and the message in the background is totally different as you can read in the article: [3]

Throughout history, many painters have painted over other paintings and they have never been treated as updates of these but yes as a different works. It is currently an active dispute with user Kingsif that recently moved the page (Super Alexia to Follow my dreams) and reverses the edits I made because he wants to fix the date of the old 2022 painting but the name "Follow my dreams" was created in the year 2023 not in 2022.

What do you think?

Desperate work needed on the page Artist.

[edit]

The page for "Artist" is in a depressing state. When compared to pages for "Scientist" and "Engineer" it is obviously below the quality we should expect. Even compared to more specific occupations, such as "Plumber", "Aircraft pilot," and "Graphic designer," the page for Artist looks embarrassingly thin and poorly sourced. For example, Artist has an entire section on "Dictionary definitions" that seems to copy paste dictionary definitions from the Oxford English Dictionary without actually citing the dictionary, or quoting its definitions.

I understand that some high level articles don't get much attention as people are more interested in their niche interests, but this is among the worst pages I've seen on Wikipedia for topics that are taught at the elementary school level. The park by my university has a more comprehensive page. It is beyond my expertise to bring this page up to the level I'd expect for such an important topic, so I'm posting it here in the hopes it attracts the attention of an expert in Theory of art, or Art history. Thank you for your help and time. GeogSage (⚔Chat?⚔) 18:58, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help improving my first article, on artist Amikam Toren

[edit]

User:2025Newbie/sandbox

Hello, I’m an aspiring Wikipedia content creator and complete beginner. This is my first article and I would welcome all criticism and advice on how I can improve. I still have some citations to source for this – these are marked by * in the text.

What am I getting wrong about the ISBN’s cited here?

My interests are Contemporary Art, Physics, Philosophy and Literature. 2025Newbie (talk) 19:00, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The issue with the ISBNs was that you put "ISBN" in the data field after the "isbn=". You don't need to do that, the Wikimedia markup software inserts that automatically for you when it renders the page.
|isbn=978-1-9993285-2-8 is correct.
|isbn=ISBN 978-1-9993285-2-8 is incorrect.
Hope that helps in the future. (I've already fixed it in your draft.)

Infobox

[edit]

Hello. I would like some feedback on an infobox for artist collectives currently in my sandbox. Does it seem suitable for publishing Thank you. -- NotCharizard 🗨 14:32, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You should add a "name" field. That way, if the page title contains a parenthetical disambiguation or is a shortened version of the full name, it can be manually overridden in the infobox. GranCavallo (talk) 15:31, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Repeating my comment elsewhere: "Personally, I'd much rather not see this, or anything like it, used. Almost everything in it will be disputable or disputed, or is really vague. It seems a classic example of where an infobox is just unhelpful clutter, and will displace or make too small an image that would be more helpful." Joining WikiProjects question

[edit]
Hewo! I have a question: how do I join a project? Bella. (talk) 02:25, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To join this project, all you have to do is add your name to the Participants list on the project page. Joining other projects is the same, but some other projects have their participants lists on separate subpages. You can find more Wikiprojects at the WikiProject Directory.
