Outdated stuff copied from project page
Moved by Maurreen (talk) 02:36, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
Major areas of focus
- Making the most important core topics meet the proposed Wikipedia 1.0 Standard.
Contenders and status
Team members are encouraged to list one or a few appropriate articles here to invite collaboration. You might want to consider those listed at Featured Articles or core topics.
- Belgium: Featured article. Looks good overall, but it could use small tweaks and it needs references. Maurreen 06:56, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Culture: The article has been copy-edited and has references. It needs much more breadth. Maurreen 06:56, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Economics: Although it is a Featured Article, it lacks references and it might be too technical for most readers. Maurreen 06:56, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Proposed guidelines and strategies
Principles of Wikipedia 1.0
- A 'validated' set of articles (Standard unspecified)
- These articles would be suitable for release in print, CD and DVD.
- The process of validation and making ready for publication will not affect the existing wiki process for creating and amending articles; other than flagging specific versions of articles as being of a certain standard.
Proposed Requirements
- Some method of validating articles
- There will be some mechanism within the software to give the reader easy access to the last stable version.
- Some method of amending articles so they are suitable for publication.
- A set of standards:
- Usable articles - Lets call it the Wikipedia 0.5 standard
- Featured articles - Lets call it the Wikipedia 1.0 standard
Proposed Wikipedia 0.5 Standard
Requirements:
- Must be factually accurate, comprehensive, and well-written
- Must be uncontroversial in its neutrality and accuracy
Proposed Wikipedia 1.0 Standard
Requirements:
- Must meet the Wikipedia 0.5 Standard (above)
- Must include a lead section which is brief but sufficient to summarize the entire topic
- Must include images (pictures, maps and diagrams, with good captions) where appropriate
- Must include headings and have a substantial, but not overwhelming, table of contents
- Must include references when and where appropriate
- Must comply with the standards set by any relevant WikiProjects as well as those in the style manual
Proposed strategies
General points
These ideas are food for thought. They have not achieved consensus.
- Working on pages listed at List of sovereign states or List of reference tables.
- Rating or reviewing core topics, either with a numerical rating corresponding the standards above or short reviews indicating the articles' strengths and weaknesses.
- Running a bot to check for copyright infringments.
- Jurisdictions will need to be decided upon
- Must in no way interfere with the normal Wikipedia editing process.
