This is ridiculous

[edit]

You might as well create a straw poll on "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" Why does this matter in the slightest?—greenrd 09:03, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is some debate on the placement of controversial and/or unencyclopedic userboxes in the main namespace, template namespace, and Wikipedia namespace, because these are official namespaces. Many want most or all of these (except perhaps WP:BABEL, which helps identify users by language and is inherited from Wikimedia.) --Shruti14 t c s 01:21, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My Userbox Sorting Idea

[edit]

I think that:

  1. Wikipedia namespace: Userboxes in the Wikipedia namespace should be used for templates that are directly related to Wikipedia. (Examples: An edit count template, Userboxes for what other language portals the user edits in, etc.)
  • Project Userboxes: Userboxes for individual Wikiprojects (i.e. {{User WikiProject Userboxes}}) should be kept as a subpage of their respective projects and should only be edited directly by those in the project.
  1. Template namespace: Serious userboxes that are not directly related to Wikipedia but are meant to be widely used and general purpose (like programming languages the user knows or basic interests) will be placed in the Template namespace, but in a separate section from actual article templates. The templates here and in the Wikipedia namespaces are not "owned" by one person, so anyone should be able to edit userboxes in the Template and Wikipedia namespaces with proper consensus.
  2. User namespace: This is where templates go that single users have made (i.e. {{User:Teinesavaii/Polynesian Userboxes/Coconut}}, or {{User:Ajmint/Userboxes/badgers}}). Generally, these templates should only be edited by the person who made the template. If the template is good enough and general purpose enough though, then it may be moved to the template namespace.
