Article Overviews

Hey guys! So I was looking through the recommneded articles for the group project and they all need some work done on them, some more then others. The following articles I picked out because they seemed to be interesting others because they need some serious help

Dicer Bacteriophage T12 Leaky scanning Small interfering RNA

So Dicer is of stub-class and of mid importance. It just has a history and brief summary right now and could use some more images of structures and mechanisms I think. Also, an expansion on information would be helpful also

Bacteriophage T12 is registeread at a low importance so it only has a very short explanation and no pictures. However, I did a quick search in the JHU library and didn't really find much online. There were some article in PubMed though.

Leaky scanning has absolutely no talk page and is in serious need of help. It has no references and no images and just contains a brief summary.

Small interfering RNA is of B class quality and mid importance. The article itself is very informative and has several images but is missing some information and specifics. It would be a good article to work with since it already has a significant base article already and we would be helping form a better quality.

Thats my thoughts of the articles that were posted. No matter what we pick they are all interesting and could use some work. Please let me know what you think and what you guys would like to work with. Thanks! Myaworsk (talk) 17:21, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the nucleic acid structure page, it is divided into four sections, each section including the primary, secondary and tertiary has a lot of information. The quaternary structure is lacking details. Are we going to add to the main page or the sub heading? I am a little confused. Ravinder2012 (talk) 10:32, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nucleic acid structure

Hey group-- I just wanted to touch base and what your thoughts were on improving this article. I think we should add some more of an introduction but can probably stay with the very general outline that is in place now. Based on that outline we can expand on each topic and use the article that are listed already on the page as help with discussing how the different levels of the structure interact in DNA/RNA functions. Images will also be a big help, at least I know they are always for me and especially something such as structures it would make it easier to see bonds and the different levels of the structure. I was going to start looking up sources for both info and images tonight. Please speak up on any other directions we should take this article and if there is a particular seciton that someone would like to work on so we can get the ball rolling. Thanks. I agree we need an introduction about the DNA structure and RNA structure. DNA is made up of two polynucleotide chains twisted around to form a helix.[1] RNA is usually made up of single polynucleotide chain.[1] We can expand on the A,B and Z form of DNA. I found some images for the chemical structure of RNA. A little description on types of RNA, its structure and its function can be added.Ravinder2012 (talk) 00:15, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the late response but I lost power due to Hurricane Sandy. I agree that the introduction needs improvement and that's what I am just starting to work on now. Images are also a good idea. Okay. Just checked it out and definitely a solid starting point. Certainly gives us a good way to expand. Not sure how much more we can add to primary since thats pretty straightforward. The only thing I can really think of is images of bases? I think secondary structure has a ton of places where we can expand. We can probably expand on the forms since they play an important role. Also, the major and minor grooves their roles is also important. Another thing is stacking bases and force interactions. Tertiary and quaternary, I'm not sure where we can go from there. I saw some info on tertiary structure and linking numbers, twist and writhe, so I can add that into the 3D talk of the tertiary structure. But quaternary structure I guess we can add some info on histones and folding up of the DNA like we cover in class the other week? Not sure where to go with that one. I wasn't sure how and where we wanted to expand so that is why I stopped short on some things (secondary and tertiary structures)but what you mentioned is good. I thought I was logged in when I was editing but then I received the e-mail stating that it has been changed by an anonymous person so I logged in and changed it. Sorry Michelle but I of course didn't read your post until after I posted the A, B and Z forms of DNA. Check it out and feel free to make any changes. I think it needs formatting because right now I think there is just too much text. Maybe insert some more images to break it up? Let me know what you guys think. No problem Monica. It looks good. A lot of information there. I'll definitely see if there is any formatting that needs to be done. I'm gonna check out and look for ways to expand on the quaternary structure. Any other ideas on where we can take this article? Besides that I am kind of at a standstill. I will be adding some information on linking number, was thinking if it can go under one of the structure heading or a separate heading. Hi, I see you guys have started to make some very nice improvements to your article. Don't forget to cite reliable sources -- this is very important, and it would probably be easier to do as you go, rather than waiting until the end. Some other groups have started by compiling a list of reliable sources first, and then using those as the basis for editing the article. Just a suggestion. Final Edits to Article

Hey group. Just checking in an seeing where everyones head is at with any final edits to the article. I think we have made some amazing progress considering where the article was when we first started. I am not sure how much more we can add. Our peer reviewers did not recommend much. The only thing that really popped out at me was the mention of adding references which I am pretty sure we all did adequately when we made additions. I think the addition of what happens when mutations arise could be helpful but at the same time I think it is a very large and vast topic that we could not incorporate the best extent. Moreover, there is already a wiki article on nucleic acid mutations that does a wonderful job of explaining it. So besides those points I am not sure what else we can edit. Hey Michelle - I left a message on our article talk page. Did you get a chance to check it out? If not, I basically fixed the inline citations, moved the references and addressed Klortho's comments. I also feel that we need to expand more on the quaternary structure, if that's possible. Klortho suggested talking about nucleic acid sequence which I did but we may want to add to that as well. I did see the recommendations by Klortho and the additions you did. Thank you for that. I also want to expand more on the quaternary structure but I found it difficult to find info on that topic. The only thing I could really come up is expanding on how it interacts with the splicesome or histones in a more detail. Ideas?Myaworsk (talk) 15:20, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I know, I had problems finding more information on quaternary structure as well. I read someplace that it was RNA that had quaternary structures but not DNA.
