Where do i go to sign up?

[edit]

Where do i go to sign up? Link please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Peter.C (talkcontribs) 23:50, 29 August 2008‎ (UTC)[reply]

I think you just add your name on to the list. And don't forget the four tildes (~) when you leave talk page comments, but you've probably realised that. :) Lewis512 (talk) 23:25, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

UK and US spelling

[edit]

Please note: Wikipedia does not favour either US or UK spelling. For the benefit of American spelling fascists, let me rewrite that. Wikipedia does not favor either US or UK spelling. Do not go through articles changing one to the other and claiming it is a "typo correction". Perhaps this group should issue a reminder to all of its members in this regard. Typo team

[edit]

Wow we got a big team here. -- OlEnglish (Talk) 04:30, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder how many are actually active? Hopefully more than appear on the list! Plastikspork (talk) 22:09, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I dunno. Maybe that typo-fixing bot made them obsolete. -- OlEnglish (Talk) 12:17, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I refuse to be replaced by a machine. Although, I will allow myself to be assisted by a machine as long as I get to keep my job. Plastikspork (talk) 21:06, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. :) No bot will ever be better than a competent editor. Hey that rhymes! I'm a poet and I didn't even know it. -- OlEnglish (Talk) 07:54, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lol it actually does rhyme Tshepiso Matlaba (talk) 22:08, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling and grammar?

[edit]

Is grammar included in the typo team? Or should I make a grammar team? Grammar errors stick out to me just as much as spelling errors, and I feel the need to correct those as well. Paperfork 13:10, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Updated count

[edit]

I updated the count. I got 643 active members, 7 retired and 1 semi-retired member. (Total=651)
Should I include the retired and semi-retired members on the count or leave it how it is?
Current count: 643 Members (plus 7 retired and 1 semi-retired)[1]dargereldren Talk Contribs Guestbook 20:37, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I say we drop the 'retired/semi-tired' bit and just have a plain total count. -- œ 02:46, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree with OlEnglish. It's simple and it also gives the most accurate indication of how many people have an expressed interest in actively correcting typos. And thank you Dargereldren for taking the initiative to make the update. Senator2029 | talk | contributions 10:21, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It there an automatic counter of the number of members? Tabletop (talk) 10:37, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure one can be coded. -- œ 09:49, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Members who do not use the userbox?

[edit]

Should they be included? Are they even members? For example, User:Adjusting (just a random example, and he's definitely a member here, but without a userbox on his page).--Adûnâi (talk) 17:02, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What’s a user box? Adjusting (talk) 00:47, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I realize that the question << What’s a user box? >> may have been added, here, just -- (or "mainly") -- to emphasize that the absence of a "user box" might be caused by (simply) ignorance or apathy.
(e.g.: Maybe the user does not know [how to insert a "user box"], OR ... maybe the user is too busy [doing what he considers to be "real work"] to mess with it [inserting a "user box"]).
Also, I may not be the best person to "answer" that question, (about what a user box is); but ... well ... anyone can see that, on the User page [of] Adûnâi, there is an entry that says:
"{{User Typo Team}}"
(and it is displayed like this) :
tyop
typo
This user is a member of the
Wikipedia Typo Team.

so ... that is probably what the OP ["opening post"] in this section was referring to.

I hope this helps. --Mike Schwartz (talk) 18:15, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Housekeeping applied to the membership list.

[edit]

Dear fellow editors,
I am leaving the present message out of courtesy to members of the Typo Team interested in the maintenance of the list.
I have relisted all entries in alphabetical order and also removed the entries for editors with user and talk pages that had been moved/deleted (in red) AND which also showed zero contributions. If a user page had never been edited (still in red) but the talk page had, then I kept the entry, even if the user had not made any contributions; rationale being that the editor might contribute in the future. Finally, if a user page in red displayed the ‘Retired’ template at its talk page, then I relocated that entry to the ‘Retired members’ section. After taking these actions, I counted the remaining entries and updated the counter at the top of the page. If I made any mistakes, then I can only apologise for causing the unnecessary work required in their correction.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 01:07, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I alphabetized the list using Excel. I notice now that some people use a different username designation pre- and post-pipe character. Oh well. There were four "talk" page entries, and I hand-sorted them into the right order. The rest are alphabetized from left to right, like "* [User:Someone|Noone]" would get sorted as "S", not "N". I also updated the count - which wasn't off until I added myself and forgot to add 1 to the count. But that verified the count is now correct. Nomopbs (talk) 02:38, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I saw a few usernames with green and gold text for them. That left me wondering about whether the use of colours on username links on this page is allowed.

ScratchyGamer314 (talk) 07:28, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@ScratchyGamer314 – Just replying for anyone wondering in the future: I presume that the standard rules for usernames apply – some stylization okay; nothing excessive or disruptive to the editing process (giant fonts, blinking) or the server infrastructure (including images, outside links).   — TARDIS builder     ★       05:59, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Member count

[edit]

Just to confirm that the member count is correct as of my edits. I didn't manually count each one; used math (members per full screen × # of screens long × columns excess lines on usernames taking up more than 1 line, etc.) instead.   — TARDIS builder     ★       05:56, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear TARDIS Builder,
Thank you so much for doing all this, including the tidying up tasks you contributed yesterday! It's been some time since I last performed similar housekeeping and it's always nice to find that someone else thought along the same lines!
Keep well, and thank you for all your contributions to our encyclopaedia.
With kind regards;

@Pdebee – I am just a WikiGnome, doing what WikiGnomes do best. But it is nice to have the time that I spent noticed by someone and acknowledged, so thank you! I definitely didn't go through nearly the entire list for inactive / retired members, though, or for renamed accounts. I only changed / moved the ones I came across.   — TARDIS builder     ★       16:04, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear TARDIS Builder;
You're most welcome, and please know that whatever you do as a WikiGnome is important and much appreciated. Please keep up the good work!
