Patrolling
Is it possible, to include patrolling links into the popups?--Dami (talk) 14:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
"current" diff link
Is there a way that I can get a diff to the current version of a file in popups' history preview (like you do in the normal "history" view)? --Slashme (talk) 06:03, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Disable pop-ups on edit window
I've looked over the options carefully, but can't figure out which (if any) option disables pop-ups for the edit textbox. Any help would be appreciated. :D —Zachary talk 08:53, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- Just to add, I have tried to "disable popups" when they come up in the edit box, but they keep coming back. —Zachary talk 08:55, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Change request - flagging users who are under ArbCom restrictions
Something that would be really useful, especially for administrators, would be if the Popups somehow flagged a user who was currently under ArbCom editing restrictions, such as by putting a red dot next to their name or something. Does anyone know if this would be possible, via a comparison with the names that are currently listed at Wikipedia:Editing restrictions? Or how might I go about requesting some sort of javascript tool like that? --Elonka 21:41, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Disambugation bug
Popups does not correctly handle the S&P 500 index link on SPX. The '&' seems to confuse the autoedit script. Phatom87 (talk • contribs) 16:18, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Twinkle issues when configuring popups
I tried configuring the popups, and added option = value and the rest below the script that imports the popup script, and I did manage to config the popups, but it shut down all of the functions of Twinkle and the rest of my monobook. Does anybody know why this might be? I tried multiple times, and made sure not to interfere with the other scripts, but Twinkle keeps shutting off. I'm hopeless not good at all when it comes to coding. RedZionX 20:21, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Decreasing Title's Size
With all possible respect to the creator(s) of this great tool, I feel that such huge titles, which are kind of redundant to begin with, waste a lot of valuable pop-up space. I didn't find the appropriate option on the main page and I have no experience working with Cascading Style Sheets, so, I'd be grateful if somebody gave me a quick hint (or piece of code) that would allow to decrease the size of the title font or to remove pop-up titles altogether.
EDIT: Just to clarify, I am talking about the Fancy and Menu layout(/structure) types. Without the summaries (popupSummaryData=false), it's just a large title and a lot of empty space beneath it. I wouldn't want to switch back to the original layout though - it seemed cluttered. Light and nostalgia look just great, but I really need those extra options... Question about this feature
Does it allow a user to disambiguate links automatically (ie, repair any redirects sans talk pages)? Lord Sesshomaru (talk • edits) 19:35, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

- Hi, I'm new to using popups and would like to use it to disambiguate links to the Foxy Brown page, since it refers to a film, rapper, and singer. I have set "popupfixdabs" to "true" but I can't seem to disambiguate. Can you please help? Thanks. --Andrewlp1991 (talk) 06:42, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Try clearing your cache. --Closedmouth (talk) 06:57, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I have cleared my cache. My question is, where in the popup can I change the wikilink to, say just plain Foxy Brown to Foxy Brown (rapper) within the page 1999 in music, for instance. I can see the popup and the disambiguation links. I just need help with how I do it within the popup. --Andrewlp1991 (talk) 22:32, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- That makes two of us Andrew. I've already cleared my cache and the redirect feature still isn't working. What did I do wrong here? Lord Sesshomaru (talk • edits) 01:42, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, according to the glossary: "If this variable is set to true then you can automatically "fix" links to redirect pages by clicking on the "Redirects" link." So you might want to find the "redirects" link that's supposed to be in the popup. --Andrewlp1991 (talk) 23:03, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Rearrangement
Whenever a list, or section of a list, is rearranged (as in alphabetically and whatnot) the popup diff shows what looks like mass deletions followed by mass insertions. Many editors conclude it is vandalism by looking at the popup (I myself have also done it). Is there any way to fix that? BalkanFever 15:35, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Getting popups on another wiki
I've gotten the popups to work in 1.11.1 to a degree. I was not able to install the query.php, it looks like it is obsolete and I can't find any instructions for it. Without it, the popups work ok - they give a short preview. They only work on diff and history links. Is that normal for an external wiki? I primarily used here, here, here, here for reference. Is there an updated way to get this to work completely on newer versions? Thanks. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 04:31, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Bug on other projects
Popups, when installed on other projects, does not seem to recognize the project space. For example, if popups is installed on commons, and you hover of the link Commons:Help desk, and click on the talk page option, it will direct you to Talk:Commons:Help desk instead of Commons talk:Help desk. When hovering over (diff) in your watchlist
When hovering over a "(diff)" in your watchlist, you see something approximately like:
- Angular diameter
- 2008-02-28
- (last) 15:22:16 Kheider m rv
- (last) 14:41:26 131.247.7.155
- ...
The editor links here lead to [[User:Kheider]] and [[User:131.247.7.155]].
I think the feature would be even more useful if they were to lead instead to [[Special:Contributions/Kheider]] and [[Special:Contributions/131.247.7.155]]. --Lambiam 17:31, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Picture rollover help
Hi, I could use some help here. Popups works pretty well, except when I float over pictures. When I do, the pop up appears, but it says this: imagepage preview failed :( is the query.php extension installed?

Section editing
When one uses Popups to fix a disambig link on a big page, it currently edits the whole page. Can you set it to allow the editing to only be in the section where the link is? This would save bandwidth and reduce the chance of edit conflicts. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 08:00, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Reverting and patrolling
I've tried this out a little, and I'm impressed! I really like it! But is there a function that allows you to rollback instead of undo the vandalism? This would automatically patroll what you rollback, and that would be preferable. Also, is it possible to mark as patrolled in the pop up? That would be the best! (using this on no.wiki). Thanks in advance. --EivindJohnsen (talk) 08:58, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed, someone please add rollbock. As it is now, after every revert I have to go to the article history to see if there was a series of vandalisms that needed to be reverted. --Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 17:22, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Footnote problem
For some reason today, the "hover over footnote" option is not working for me. Instead of displaying the footnote, it just displays the first few lines of the article, as though all the footnotes are broken.

- Logging back in to Wikipedia

Functions stopped working
In just the last couple of days the "diff my edit" and the "latest edits" functions have stopped working- they show up on the menu but clicking them produces no effect. Until just a couple of days ago they would bring up a new tab with the relevant diff. I have tried reformatting my monobook.js file, switching between IE and Firefox, logging on and off, restarting the computer, and various combinations of these, always of course purging my cache, without any success. Problem with URL decoding on Safari
Hello. On the french Wipikedia with use the popups with [1], i dont know if its the up to date file. Someone talk to me about a problem with the popup. He use Mac Safari 3.1, and i do my test on Win Safari 3.0. Now it work on both.
The popup title for an article display wrong UTF-8 characters like KantÅ
instead of Kantō
, and dont find the content of the page displaing /* Empty */
.
I understand the problem come from Title.prototype.fromURL
if (pg.flag.linksLikeIE6) { splitted[0]=encodeURI(decode_utf8(splitted[0])); }
And i patch it in the function setBrowserHacks
, replacing
if (pg.flag.isIE && pg.flag.IEVersion < 7 || pg.flag.isKonq || pg.flag.isSafari) {
By
if (pg.flag.isIE && pg.flag.IEVersion < 7 || pg.flag.isKonq) {
Maybe Safari before 3 need linksLikeIE6 = true
, but 3 dont need. Is any body can check it better, and patch the popups ? Thanks a lot. bayo 20:53, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
popups on another wiki
I installed popups on another wiki, but I don't really have access to the server to the point where I can create a link between the query extension directory and the root directory; as such, I'm guessing my query isn't accessable to the popups? Right now the popups don't show images (first image in an article, or image when you mouseover an image) - is this due to the disabled query.php or is there another issue? Thanks TheHYPO (talk) 05:40, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Popups on Huwiki
I'm not sure if Lupin is active anymore so I'm posting my question here as well. Could you please look at the script, because it doesn't correctly recognise the namespaces on the Hungarian Wikipedia (and consequently can't guess the talk pages' names, or recognise User pages). The namespace names have been changed recently: http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki?view=rev&revision=36499 . Thank you. Regards, --Dami (talk) 08:44, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Apache error log fills up with thumbnail requests
If you are running on a standalone system (i.e. not using Commons images) you may notice your Apache error log filling up with items such as this:
... File does not exist: .../wiki/images/thumb/c/c0/120px-some_image.jpg ...
I stopped this by modifying the .js code at function setImageSources() and commenting out all the requests for "frequently seen thumbs". Leave just the last one {wiki: pg.wiki.hostname, thumb: false, width: 0} I am not a javascript expert but this stopped it from sending multiple requests to Apache for thumb sizes that my system never has. Jimkloss (talk) 06:15, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'll explain this a tad. Wikipedia runs software on the image server that automatically generates the thumbnail if the thumb does not yet exist. As such it is possible to "request" any thumbnail size that you want of any image, as long as you know how the URLs define this. If it is not yet there, it will be automatically generated. What Jimkloss has done here, is simply stating "get the image, not a thumbnail". --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 15:12, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Crashes lately.
In the past, say two months or so, I've seen an increase in the frequency of browser freeze (then crash) from nav popups on both my desktop and laptop. The issue typically occurs when the popup is in "stage 1" of loading (the title and functions are visible, but before the revision history and actual content popup, which I will call "stage 2"). If I decide not to go through with the link I'm hoving over, and I try to click any other link in the article (or whatever page I'm on), before "stage 2" loads, stage 1 will freeze for maybe 10 seconds before the browser crashes (sometimes just the one window, sometimes the whole browser app (and all browser windows). I'm currently running IE6, and haven't tested the issue on other browsers personally at this time, but it's fairly replicatable; I always know instantly when I've misclicked. I don't recall this ever being an issue before the last few months, and I'm a longtime popup user. TheHYPO (talk)
- Possibly related to the switch towards the API interface. Unfortunately, i do not support IE6, so I won't be able to find a fix for this. If another users feels compelled to find the issues with IE6, give me a holller. --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 12:56, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Bugs and issues
There has been some issues I'd like to bring up. The first is not converting .20 to the underscore character in the anchor links. Lupin has seemly left the project so he shouldn't be first contact on this page. Third, the toolserver moved sometime ago from tools.wikimedia.de to toolserver.org, and some of the edit counter links are broken in popups. — Dispenser 19:52, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
- Please always provide example links and your browser/platform versions when you want to report a problem. I cannot reproduce your problem at this moment on Safari 3.1 Mac OS X. I'll see what I can do about the issue with the toolserver. should be a simple one :D --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 13:00, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Not working after changes
I saw a change was made to the script today and after I cleared my cache, popups no longer works (at all). It doesn't look like the change was all that big of a deal and maybe it is unrelated. Problem with IE 7, FF 3.0.1, 3.0.3 on XP and Vista. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 21:33, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm having the same problem. Tried logging out and back in - still no pop-ups. Tried clearing my cache - still no pop-ups. Tried disabling and re-enabling the setting in my preferences - still no pop-ups. Can the change be rolled back and given some more testing? Thanks. - I have the problem too. Using Firefox 3.0.3. The revert I did was on the diff screen, I hovered over the "edit" on the previous revision and selected "actions"-->"revert". - Akamad (talk) 08:08, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

- Hmm, looking into it, but I cannot find an immediate explanation for this issue. BTW, Akamad, you should consider switching your monobook.js to use importScript( 'User:Lupin/popups.js') as opposed to "document.write". The latter might break in future versions of browsers (and is already broken in Safari). --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 11:33, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- I tried several things to reproduce this. I used your popups settings (simplepopups), Firefox 3.0.3 From the history of a page I went to both a normal diffpage, and a "last edit" diff page. Hoovered over the edit link of the old version and selected actions->revert. This succeeded at all times. There are 2 causes which spring to mind that could have caused the problem. The first would be a timeout of one of the API requests the popups script makes to retrieve the information it requires. The other thing which might be the problem here, is that you clicked that link before the download of the required information was completed (you were too quick or your internet connection was too slow at the time you made the change). Both issues should be relatively uncommon, but please be alert to any recurrences of this and check if you can confirm either of those situations. --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 11:59, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

- I'm the user that experienced the issue. What happened (I think) is that I tried to manually type something into the edit sum field after the page was loading. You might give that a try to reproduce. I can't be sure that is what happened, but sometimes I get a step ahead of myself and that will happen. Regards, DigitalNinja 14:08, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Not working with diff and hist on contributions and history pages
Just noticed this after returning from vacation. Popups used to work with diff and hist links on user contribution and article history pages, but it doesn't now -- the popup just shows the page title with no content below it. Is this a known problem? I have tried deactivating and reactivating Popups in my monobook.js. Win XP Pro, SP2, Firefox 2.0.0.17. Thanks. – ukexpat (talk) 18:16, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
query.php has been shut down!
The old query.php interface has been shut down as of 25 August, 2008 in favor of MediaWiki's native machine API. Unfortunately, there are still quite a few query.php calls in User:Lupin/popups.js. Somebody should adapt the code. This is probably the cause for some of the problems above. Cacycle (talk) 19:55, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Normally, these calls should only be used when popupUseAPI is false. It's more logical that the people above need to empty their cache to make sure they have an updated version running. --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 22:04, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Rollback
It has been mentioned before, but rollback would be really helpful! By adding a rollback link to the pop-up menu, we wouldn't have to check the history page for more vandalism or to get to the vandals talk page. Is there a way this could be added for rollbackers? --Andrew Kelly (talk) 22:58, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
It's not my mop!
For some reason, when the mouse is above the link to my talkpage in my signature on Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#Full_protect_important_policies and on this page edit preview, popup displays Image:Admin mop.PNG as if it was part of my talkpage (it's not). It does not show up in articles talk or user talk space. What's up? Am I entitled to 1/500 of a mop based on percentage of edits here and there? Or is it worse than I think? NVO (talk) 13:16, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- The first image on your user talk page ist the mop in the RFA thank spam, and that's what popup displays. --AmaltheaTalk 16:10, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- thanks, did not realize they in fact existed... still quite misleading, isn't it? NVO (talk) 17:18, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Could the disambig function be made to work on set index pages?
I've seen a number of disambig pages being changed to set index pages (example: Pavlovsky District). That makes those pages unusable with the popup disambiguation function. Could Navigation popups be modified so that the dab function would work with SIA pages? Auntof6 (talk) 07:39, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Titles starting with apostrophe
I ran into this small problem with article titles that start with an apostrophe, when the title appears verbatim in the introduction text. See below for examples; usually the nowiki tags are used to prevent the apostrophe in the title interfering with the bold/italics markup code. But (apparently) the NavPopup removes the nowiki tags before interpreting the bold/italics markup code (or something like that):
code | result | notes |
---|---|---|
''''''74 Jailbreak'''''
|
'74 Jailbreak | apostrophe not bold/italicized
NavPopup formatting messed up |
'''''<nowiki>'74</nowiki> Jailbreak'''''
|
'74 Jailbreak | page ok
NavPopup formatting still messed up |
''''' '74 Jailbreak'''''
|
'74 Jailbreak | adding a space seems to be a nice solution (NavPopup looks fine too) |
"'''<nowiki>'65 Love Affair</nowiki>'''"
|
"'65 Love Affair" | page ok
NavPopup formatting messed up |
"''' '65 Love Affair'''"
|
" '65 Love Affair" | solution of adding a space obviously can't be used here (NavPopup looks fine though) |
(The result column gives how it shows on the page. See the NavPopup links for a NavPopup demo.)
I edited a few articles, and put a space in front of the apostrophe ('74 Jailbreak), but that solution can't be used always, like in the '65 Love Affair case. (I tried using a m:Help:self-link too, but NavPopup shows it as a link instead of bold text: test.)
I hope this can be fixed in NavPopup, i.e. nowiki tags not messing up the formatting in the NavPopup, so I can revert the hacks I made to those pages. ;-) — Mar(c). 15:48, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Adoption for Commons
In Commons I would like to see in which Categories a Image or a Category is, not only in how many. Another point is that we have in Commons normally the Commons:Template:Information with Description, Source, Date, Author, Permission and "other_versions" were I want to see one or more this parameters. Beside we use there some Copyright_tags so it could be interesting to see this. It would be also interesting to see which image has a Geocoding-Template like Template:location. So it should be possible to watch all templates in small version. So the script needs some modification but has IMO a high potential because on commons we work with a very huge number of images. Who can help? Thanks. --Kolossos (talk) 19:41, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't seem like the tool is able to popup images anymore now that their namespace has changed. -- Mentisock 09:20, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes I know. I'm gonna try and fix it today, but I think it will be hard. I had no time to prepare popups for this, since there was no place to test it. --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 11:01, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- This is gonna be harder than I thought. Popups has no concept of namespace redirects, so it breaks quite badly. At the moment i don't feel like investing so much time into popups. --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 11:01, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

New format for user preference "timecorrection"
The format od the user preference "timecorrection", which is parsed in the function getTimeOffset has changed recently from sth. about "-03:00" to sth. like "Offset|-180|foo/bar" so the function should be adapted to it. Currently, users that have a preference in the new format are shown edits with UTC timestamps, which can be really confusing. Cheers --P.Copp (talk) 22:52, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Feature request: display author and edit summary when previewing a diff
When previewing a diff, I would like to see the edit summary and the author's name, in addition to what's already displayed (the old and new date and time, and the diff itself). The author should be a link to the user page, and hovering over it should bring up all the usual options. Is there anybody who feels like coding that? —AlanBarrett (talk) 12:14, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Time offset
Is there a way to have Popups use the time offset from the user preferences? I've noticed the "popupTimeOffset" option, but cannot figure out what parameters it needs. Thanks in advance. --Ckatzchatspy 21:48, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- This option is currently broken due to a change in syntax in the API. When i have time to work on popups again, i might fix it, but unless someone else fixes it, it will probably remain broken for a little while longer. --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 23:45, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Reverting without explanation
Is it proper to use Popups to revert a non-vandalistic edit without an explanation? I know that it's no acceptable when doing it with undo and rollback. AnyPerson (talk) 23:43, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- The Wikiquette advises to always give a rationale when reverting. The means of the revert (Huggle, Twinkle, Popups, Undo, manual revert, ...) do not matter in that respect.
Reverts without an explanation should be reserved for bad faith or blatantly unconstructive edits. Since Popups has no option to enter an adjusted edit summary it should only be used in such cases. --Amalthea 16:18, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
