I think we should be choosing between fair use or nothing at all. A generic placeholder image is not an example of our best work. This would never actually be used in a featured article, so why have it on the main page? --- RockMFR 02:03, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since there is, to my knowledge, no useful consensus on only free images on the main page (Clearly there's not, c.f. lots of other parts of the main page and lots of history) and that image looked absolutely stupid, yes, I've reverted. Incredibly jarring to change images on the main page, btw. Don't do it - it's not so urgent an issue that it can't wait for consensus or wait until the article just passes on naturally. Agreed, and not only did the free image look "stupid", but it contained a shot from another horror film, Nosferatu. Text from film A and an image from film B can obviously cause confusion. Prolog 23:01, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
