Creating Templates For The Wanted Templates List
[edit]I am having some difficulty understanding how the wanted templates is working. There is a list of templates which are wanted but there is a special note at the top of the page that it can't be edited and that it has been cached since January 2013. Are these templates something which is desired or something which we should leave alone. Assistance with this enquiry is appreciated. Rutherfurdsolutions (talk) 03:58, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
- This page has exactly two watchers - I'm one, I guess you're the other. Since I don't know the answer, you're probably better off asking at a page with considerably more attention, such as WP:VPT. --Redrose64 (talk) 08:58, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Redrose64: Hi, how did you find the exact number of watchers above? Page information often shows Fewer than 30 watchers. - NQ (talk) 15:15, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- @NQ: Admins can see the exact number, but not the names. BTW it's now up to 3 watchers. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:18, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, alright thanks. Yeah I watchlisted it. :) - NQ (talk) 15:25, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

- A template is considered ‘wanted’ if it is currently used on a page (not sure if this is just for the ‘Article’ namespace, or for others as well).

How does this page get updated?
[edit]How does this page get updated? I have worked with other editors to fix a number of these errors, and it would be nice to have a fresh list.
And is it possible to add this page to my Watchlist so that I know when it has been updated? – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:37, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
- Six watchers now! That's double the last time I counted (see above). --Redrose64 (talk) 21:43, 14 October 2016 (UTC)

- Looks like it was updated on 19 October 2016, one month after the last update. It would be great to have a list that excluded transclusions in the same namespaces that are excluded from Citation Style 1 error categorization, namely Book talk, Category talk, Draft, Draft talk, Education Program talk, File talk, Help talk, MediaWiki talk, Module talk, Portal talk, Talk, Template talk, TimedText talk, User, User talk, and Wikipedia talk. Transclusions and errors in those namespaces are sometimes not fixable (e.g. .js files in User space), are often examples that should not be "fixed", or do not degrade the reader's experience. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:59, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

- You can fix those false positives on JavaScript pages by making an edit like this. --Redrose64 (talk) 09:38, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
- You may be able to, but I can't edit other users' .js files, and for good reason. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:37, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

Can the page be updated more often, or be made longer?
[edit]There is a group of us working through this report every time it is updated, currently monthly. There is currently a limit of 5,000 pages on the report, and we have been working through the contents of the updated report in about two weeks. Is it possible to either have the report updated more often, like every week or two weeks, or to have the page limit raised from 5,000 to something larger, like 10,000 or 15,000? – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:55, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Limits cannot be raised above 5,000 for the same reasons that you can't view more than 5,000 user contributions/page revisions/log entries/watchlist entries at the same time. To increase the frequency, you would need to get somebody with the appropriate right (I'm guessing that you don't have it) to update the crontab entry. BTW, following on from previous posts of mine, we now have ten watchers! --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 16:30, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
