Alphabetizing
[edit]Should people be alphabetized by last name or first name? It's done both ways in this page right now. Jodi.a.schneider (talk) 16:03, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hopefully, by last name. I'm in the process of cleaning up the list. --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:23, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Cleanup
[edit]I went through and cleared out all the entries without rationale, all the blatantly local business people, all the ecnomists and professors (who have a different cat), and all the garbage. This is definitely a page that needs entry-by-entry review, though. MSJapan (talk) 19:03, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Order?
[edit]I think the supposed order of the list is alphabetic, however what sense do you make of this:
- Stewart Parnell - Owner of Peanut Corporation of America
- Stacy Denney - American entrepreneur and CEO of BarefootandPregnant.com, and author of the motherhood books Spa Mama and Fit Mama.
- Timothy S. Leatherman
- Timothy Pethick - Australian Entrepreneur, nudie drinks founder
- Valentine Rei - Russian entrepreneur
- Vernon Dickerson - American investor. Founded Dickerson Divisions, a holding company, and the Rollins-Dickerson Scholarship
- Vivek Wadhwa - Founder of Relativity Technologies
- Vince Desi - Running With Scissors CEO
- Vuk Mircetic - work in progress
- W. Wallace McDowell - IBM director of engineering*
- William McNabb - CEO of The Vanguard Group, which pioneered low-expense mutual funds
- Walter H. Wheeler, Jr. - CEO and Chairman of Pitney-Bowes Inc. [1]
- William A. Emerson - Vice President of Merrill Lynch
- William F. Ruprecht - CEO of Sothebys
- James Frederick Willett
- Klaas Zwart - Dutch businessman and racing driver; founded Petroline 1980 [2]; holder of 9 US patents; owner Ascari Cars
Is it that now you can choose whether you want to order by given names or last name? Ben T/C 19:17, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
- No. Ordering is not automatic on this list, thus it is up to the requestor to request in correct order and people like me to re-organize once in a while. Also, this conversation will be deleted in a week or so to avoid more dummies from adding requests to this page.
- You missed the irony in my question. This is what I suspected. Couldn't it then be of help to add an advice to ordering on top of the page? (hint:this is a rhetorical question). Ben T/C 09:20, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Note of fix made and error
[edit]Upon trying to add a name to the list and alphabetize another one to last-name, I was blocked from doing-so by a blocklist trigger. The thing is that it was NOT the edit that I was trying to add--it was an older request on the page-(not even in the same section as the one I was editing). Eventually I was able to find and remove the blocked ref. but thought I should mention something about it here since this could be a problem to editors. And is anyone aware if this is a site-wide problem?24.0.133.234 (talk) 16:30, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

[edit]This page is a disaster beyond words.
- The backlog is several years long.
- There are many requested bios on here that would obviously be promotional and should just be deleted. Others are have no claim of notability at all.
- Some of the articles were recreated years ago, but haven't been removed from this page.
- The gap between what a person active in sports or entertainment needs to accomplish to be considered notable and what a person active in business needs to do is mind-boggling.
- Many of these are unsourced.
- Many of these names are ambiguous.
Is there any way to save this? I'm inclined to TNT-delete the entire list as it stands, and hope that new additions will be triaged. power~enwiki (π, ν) 19:39, 5 December 2017 (UTC)
cleanup
[edit]I noticed this page after the Dec Signpost mentioned someone's entry on this page, and I see power~enwiki's comments above. They're completely correct. Many of the entries here are impossibly promotional, and shouldn't be in any part of WP at all. I also see that the only editor working systematically to clean this up in the last few years has been Edwardx. I think some additional help is needed, and I shall start removing requests that would fail speedy deletion if they were articles, either for no claim of significance, or hopelessly promotional. If anyone disagrees with me in any particular case, they can of course add something back.If someone thinks I shouldn't be doing this, I ask that they let me know.
