MacBook Firefox

Doesn't work in MacBook Firefox 3.68. Perseus (tc) 20:38, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks very much for telling us. We've created a bug report on the Google Code issue tracker: http://code.google.com/p/proveit-js/issues/detail?id=94 Can you provide any details, such as what you mean by "doesn't work" (e.g., doesn't appear at all, appears but looks broken, appears but displays error messages, etc.)? This will help us resolve the bug sooner. Thanks again. MaxVeers (talk) 20:26, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
It works now...and just now it doesn't. It just worked on "The Lost Hero," but no other pages worked. --Perseus, Son of Zeus 19:20, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Okay, it works on all pages now. --Perseus, Son of Zeus 19:20, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I've added a brief note about this to the page. Feel free to tweak it further. Superm401 - Talk 20:22, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
How easy would it be for you to support Template:Cite doi and related templates? Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 14:06, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
Fairly easy. I actually wrote an explanation with all the steps. I've noted your suggestion as issue 105. If you'd like, you can do it yourself then post the changes to the issue. If not, I'll get to it as soon as I can. Superm401 - Talk 23:42, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Ok, I'm reporting that there is another bug in ProveIt. When I go to a section and click an "[edit]" tab, ProveIt suddenly appears on top of the Wikipedia logo for a moment, then jumps back to where it's supposed to be, on the bottom right corner. Then, I click "Add a Reference" and it closes, I click the little arrow that opens it up, though it's still closed. The version of Chrome I use is 8.0.552, for Windows Vista (now I'm on my Vista). It was not a stable release, at the time. Downloaded on December 4, 2010. --Perseus, Son of Zeus 22:22, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I've noted this as issue 103. I have a basic idea about the most likely cause. Superm401 - Talk 23:30, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Hidden Find results

In Firefox 3.6.13, on Mac system 10.4.11, as I type Command-G to repeat a search for a text string, the highlighted text is right at the bottom of the edit window, where it is "covered" by Proveit, even when minimized. It would be desirable to be able to hide Proveit completely to get round this—it's tiresome to have to change your preferences every time you want to either search for something or reference something, tasks which are often simultaneous anyway.

Thanks. I've noted this as issue 104. Superm401 - Talk 23:36, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Vouch button

Could a "vouch for it" button be added where an editor could vouch for a reference in a particular revision?Smallman12q (talk) 13:25, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

To implement something like this, we would first need to decide what changes to the Wikipedia site (or other database) would be made in response, on the back end. We wouldn't want to update the article, so we would need to keep track of it elsewhere, then provide some sort of GUI for displaying the people who are vouching. Superm401 - Talk 23:48, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Random question

Completely random, unrelated to Wikipedia question: Can ProveIt be utilized on other websites? I have a personal blog on Wordpress that I also duplicate to Blogger and occasionally want to cite a statement in a blog post. It would be ultra convenient if ProveIt also works on those sites. Thanks! Strikerforce (talk) 15:50, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

Probably not. ProveIt is fairly specific to Wikipedia and MediaWiki's software. It could only potentially work on your blog if you used the same reference format, and software like Cite.php. Superm401 - Talk 16:55, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Required fields

Hello, in "cite news", publication date is a required field and should be highlighted in bold. (See Template:Cite_news.) Also, the parameter "newspaper"/"work" is missing. This is also a required field. It is not the same thing as "publisher", which is not usually needed in "cite news". Maybe your tool is the reason why I come across so many news references that don't give the name of the publication or the date of publication, the two most important items of information for a news reference!

The "location" parameter is also missing. This is not an essential field, but should be used when the place of publication is not included in the name of the publication. -- Alarics (talk) 21:13, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. This has been filed as issue 108, and I'll try to take care of it soon. Superm401 - Talk 17:00, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
I fixed this today in revision 93069. Thanks for the report! Superm401 - Talk 02:26, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Trouble with loading ProveIt's site

Whenever I try to use ProveIt's site, the connection times out. (I have Firefox 4, I believe.) --Dylan620 (tc) 19:37, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

D'oh! Apparently ProveIt works, it's just that the project's site won't load. Could still use looking into, though. --Dylan620 (tc) 19:47, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, this is a known issue we're working on. Sorry for the inconvenience. Superm401 - Talk 00:36, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
Server is back up now. MaxVeers (talk) 21:19, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Vouchforit

I'd like to suggest a feature where editors can vouch that the particular source actually supports what it's used for. I'm not too sure how to go about implementing it.Smallman12q (talk) 01:42, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

I think this is the same suggestion you made in the #Vouch button section above, so let's continue discussion there. Superm401 - Talk 01:45, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Allmusic

I was wondering if ProveIt can be edited to support the Allmusic citation template. Bulldog talk da contribs go rando 22:24, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I've created an enhancement request for this, issue 116. Superm401 - Talk 01:59, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
{{Allmusic}} is an external link template, not a citation. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 12:06, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Cite video

{{Cite video}} has been updated to support more parameters. Please see the documentation. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 01:39, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I've filed this as enhancement 122. Superm401 - Talk 00:26, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

I created this page, which lists some of the available reference-adding tools (as pointed out to me by Gadget885, above). I also propose a variation of this tool that adds a call link to article-space, at the end of each paragraph or at least the last graf in each section. (Or, alternatively, as a tool-bar button at the top of an article, with a section-selector step built into the tool). Any thoughts on this? Seems like it would be really useful, and could potentially be incorporated into MediaWiki as an extension to make it enabled by default for all users (including IP readers). Nathan T 22:10, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

I like this idea. You can currently load ProveIt by clicking the edit link in each section. However, it will initially be minimized. It would not be hard to add a separate section link that automatically maximizes ProveIt. I can definitely see the value in this, since it makes it easy to use while keeping it minimized in most situations. I've filed this as enhancement 123. Also, thanks for mentioning ProveIt on that listing. Superm401 - Talk 00:32, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Userbox

I feel this software needs a userbox for anyone who uses ProveIt. Can anyone from the ProveIt team please create a userbox? Thanks, Bulldog edit my talk page da contribs 15:16, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

We will look into this. If you or someone else has an idea or draft for one, we will gladly consider it. Superm401 - Talk 19:07, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
Another delighted user wants a userbox! If only I had known about this tool earlier. Djembayz (talk) 13:09, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
I created this userbox today with the blessings of Kurt Luther at the ProveIt. (talk) 22:37, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
