I agree with the idea, but not the approach. Rather than another policy page, I think we should form a policy project. Please keep me informed, we are seeking similar solutions. Cheers! --Kevin Murray (talk) 22:34, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to keep working on this for some time still - I'm due to head out on vacation within a couple weeks, so this was rather bad timing on my part to start anything extensive. I'll let you know once I get started up on it again, if nothing else has kicked in since. Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:59, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great idea

[edit]

I think this is a fantastic idea, collecting thoughts and proposals to counter the sprawling kudzu of rules. I made a sandbox space (User:Vassyana/insanity) for creating drafts of pared-down versions of the policies, so I'm keen to the general vibe. It may interest you to know that for the notability policy, there's an RfC being drafted that includes a proposal to combine the subject guidelines into the main guideline (User:Randomran/test). Wonderful idea! This has been a long time concern of my own, and I think that this is a great way to address it (though I find it funny that it has a proposed policy template on it). Either way, it has my 100% support. Tiptoety talk 20:23, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Get to work. :-) Vassyana, sorry I never replied to your comment: I wasn't aware some work had already been started on this, but do please mention what you've done in sandbox and the RfC on the appropriate pages. If something's already going on elsewhere, we can work with them to knock those out early on. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:29, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone is welcome to add another subpage to the sandbox and make a draft. The sandbox was just a experimental space for tinkering, but I will return to my previous ideas and see what I can find of worth to discuss. :) Vassyana (talk) 07:24, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One possible approach

[edit]

For simply reducing a policy page in and of itself without merging, a section by section approach using sandbox proposals may be viable. I have had some success at WP:RS in clarifying and modestly slimming two sections through this approach. (Changes:[1][2] Discussion: [3][4]) The changes are very modest, but over time this could lead to large reductions in policy size and much greater clarity & focus through a relatively uncontroversial avenue. Thoughts? Vassyana (talk) 05:13, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
