Using # at the beginning of a line
[edit]In normal text, a number sign (#) renders normally without need of markup, except at the beginning of a line.
In normal text, "#" at the beginning of a line (though use there is rarely needed or possibly discouraged) needs markup.
Examples:
- 1234 The # at the beginning of this line gets interpreted as markup to make a list item, so it gets replaced with [indent]1.[space].
#1234: The # at the beginning of this line is surrounded by nowiki tags, so it displays as #.
[Wikipedia:Number sign] is a Wikipedia disambiguation page - instructions for using "#" do not belong here.
But they aren't any found place else. It is possible that they belong somewhere. Maybe at [Help:Number sign]? -A876 (talk) 07:47, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
