Collective slack
[edit]Interesting essay, thanks for putting it forth. As I alluded in a case recently closed, and in discussions about what to do with Americanlinguist, there is the related "slack" situation where no particular person chooses to take action, for whatever reason, even though multiple people are aware. That's "collective slack" I'd say. While the point of your essay is spot on, don't give slack excessively... in the Americanlinguist case, not blocking that ID (which any admin could have done and been within policy) happened to be the right thing to do. Edge cases often prove the middle, they say... that was a rare case, usually excessive slack is not good, only rarely would it be. As with so many other things, discerning which is which is part of what makes being a good admin challenging. ++Lar: t/c 18:34, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Meh
[edit]You should probably call this Wikipedia:No Slack to more accurately reflect what it says. Someone who wants to give people slack is more deserving of this title. DreamGuy (talk) 01:57, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
