Initially a meetup/editathon is being arranged in London, but we would also like to work with Wikimedians, throughout the UK.

Whether you wish to arrange an event at a more convenient location, or edit from the comfort of your own home, please add your thoughts below. Fabian Tompsett (WMUK) (talk) 10:01, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New MPs

[edit]

By going through the List of United Kingdom Parliament constituencies, it ought to be possible to work out a list of almost certain/probable/possible 2015 intake new MPs.

For example, it must be close to certain that the new MP for Banbury will be Victoria Prentis. Assuming she is not already notable for something else, we can't start her page until she wins her seat. However, we are then faced with the possibility of more than one person trying to create that page at the same time. Perhaps starting Draft:Victoria Prentis and adding it to a table on the Project page might be a way around that? Edwardx (talk) 15:47, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Have started Draft:Victoria Prentis just to give you an idea. Edwardx (talk) 16:24, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. Lots of potential MPs already have articles for valid reasons (e.g. Rupa Huq, Tulip Siddiq), but many don't. Individuals with the best intentions sometimes create these in the main article space prematurely, so it would be good to be able to re-direct such work somewhere. In the past, I've changed such articles to redirects, so they can easily be reverted to what content there is should the individual be elected. Bondegezou (talk) 16:26, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for those helpful thoughts. I've just created Victoria Prentis as a redirect to Draft:Victoria Prentis with this edit summary, "Please do not move this draft article into mainspace until after the election result is announced on 7/8 May". That way anyone who might be interested could add to the same draft, rather than wasting their and/or my time with a separate draft. Does that seem like the best approach? Edwardx (talk) 16:53, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what the policy is on redirects to Draft space... Shouldn't redirects always go to main article space? You could have Victoria Prentis re-direct to Banbury (UK Parliament constituency) for now, but with a hidden note visible when editing pointing people to the Draft...?
We're kind of drifting away from discussing the Editathon! Should we move this (very useful) discussion to Wikipedia:WikiProject Politics of the United Kingdom? Bondegezou (talk) 17:21, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sister wikis

[edit]

This seems like an excellent initiative and I may be keen on coming along.

Is there any chance we can broaden it from just Wikipedia to also include Wikinews and Wikidata? Wikidata will need to be updated following the election, and if people wish to edit Wikinews, I'm happy to help (and also to review stuff they've written). —Tom Morris (talk) 08:04, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Wikinews would be great. I have mentioned it on Wikinews proposals and perhaps it would be a good opportunity to introduce interested people to Wikinews. Fabian Tompsett (WMUK) (talk) 10:25, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Option to fall asleep

Are beanbags and blankets available for those who fall asleep halfway through the event? Deryck C. 13:47, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
