There were six attempts to push for Manila 4 but the 7th invitation which supposed to be a gimik turned out to be the actual Manila 4. Some of the discussion were extracted from the archives of Wikipedia Tambayan talk.

Hello badge

[edit]
File:WikiHelloBadgebyLuigiNovi.jpg

Hi, guys. I designed a WikiHelloBadge for the Nov 2007 NYC Meetup for anyone who wants to use it, so if people at other Meetups want to use it, feel free. The design is supposed to represent Wikipedians of every possible persuasion, at least symbolically. I made it a double image so that when you print it out, you can fold it in the middle and laminate it so that's it's double-sided (if you plan on hanging it instead of clipping it). I included spaces so that you can identify yourself by your real name, or your Wiki Username, or both, whichever you feel comfortable with. A high-res version of it is on its upload page. And if someone wants to use it at a Meetup in a location where a language other than English is spoken, feel free to modify the greeting into a different language! After all, it's in the public domain now, so all I ask is attribution! Cheers! Nightscream 17:09, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Manila 4: Let's get together (Attempt 1)

[edit]

I propose the 4th informal meet will have a get together or EB theme, some sort of a party-like theme. Since the past three meetings became more of a talking shop atmosphere. --Exec8 05:34, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm getting a jumpstart by designing membership forms. I'll present them (both English and Tagalog; if you want to help with translation, do tell me) at the fourth meet-up. --Sky Harbor 15:49, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Membership forms for what? The Chapter? PS. If it's nowhere near Alabang or Cavite I can't go there. -- Felipe Aira 11:14, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey everyone... I propose we do a certain "Trip" in different schools in the Met to inform them more about wikipedia to help them become more conscientious users of this tool. Many students think that this encyclopedia is written by nerds and other people with excruciatingly long appendages to their name... By the way, i am back... i have afew pics to upload, hopefully research about my place in mindoro... but school hinders me... to each according to his ability... I suggest SM Manila... if that is convenient... Justox dizaola (talk) 11:16, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are we already drafting the constitution? I express interest in joining, under the chaperoneship of my mom... She's kinda suspicious... She doesn't know about wikipedia... It would be good to inform her that this is not a fraternity (negative connotation) like thing Justox dizaola (talk) 03:03, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It just looks like a fraternity (we don't have female members that show up on meetings yet).--Lenticel (talk) 22:25, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think Shrumster, DaughterofSun in en or AnakngAraw in tl, and User:Mariel Gutierrez in tl or Hedwig0407 in en are all females. We can invite them on our next meet-up. --Jojit (talk) 00:32, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Renewed discussion in April 2008 (Attempt 2)

[edit]

NOTE: The following discussion was taken from Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines.

Who is interested? --Exec8 (talk) 16:11, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well school's out so Tambay students have no reason not to join. As long as it is during the weekend and within Metro Manila then I'm fine with it.--Lenticel (talk) 16:45, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We can target it by mid May so there's sufficient time. And if the agenda will contain a talk of Wikimedia Philippines, I suggest we amend the Articles of Incorporation first to remove the Foundation aspect (i.e., the 1-million-peso-capital clauses). --seav (talk) 22:57, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Let's do it in Boracay. =P --Scorpion prinz (Talk | contribs) 01:09, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Basta sagot mo yung Roro hehe --Lenticel (talk) 01:46, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Roro lang ang katapat. Just kidding. Starczamora (talk) 05:23, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Would this[1] need to be incorporated? --Scorpion prinz (Talk | contribs) 02:28, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We should discuss CC-Philippines. Someone should bring a copy of the intellectual property code of the Philippines during the next meet-up.--Lenticel (talk) 02:35, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Summer theme is cool. --Exec8 (talk) 03:58, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Boracay 1? --seav (talk) 04:21, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I like going south like Cebu or Boracay...maybe some of our wikidudes down south will greet us. --Exec8 (talk) 10:28, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I believe PAL has a buy 1 take 2 promo... --Exec8 (talk) 10:43, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hapita ko diri sa Naval, Biliran. haha. --Efe (talk) 05:25, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, can someone contact User:Titopao in real life? His last edit was on January.--Lenticel (talk) 12:24, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll leave a comment in his LiveJournal. By the way, I'm in the US, so don't leave me behind! But I'll back a trip in Cebu or wherever, just as long as someone will vouch for me (and it is between June 1-3)! --Sky Harbor 14:16, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cebu 1 or Boracay 1, I'll be present there. --Jojit (talk) 01:59, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone willing to consider a La Union 1 or a Baguio 1? Alternativity (talk) 04:29, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dito na lang tayo mag-usap.--Lenticel (talk) 05:15, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ahoy there...someone called me? ;-) Anyways...apologies for the hiatus, I've had a crazy work schedule, a crazy extra-curricular life and---recently---a very crazy love life (no personal questions, please, this isn't Startalk or Showbiz Central :P But I've been yearning to be back in Wikiland for long. Just let me know when the meet-up will be. Just so you know, I won't be available on May 11 (Sunday, whole day) and on May 27 (Tuesday)...I don't know yet what my schedule will look like in the first few weeks of June. Cheers! (PS. I think some of you have my phone numbers as well...I haven't changed my number in 4 years, and I doubt I'd ever need to have my cell phone changed, so that means you won't lose me at all :) --- Tito Pao (talk) 04:23, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Buti ka pa nga me love life (sniff). Anyway, welcome back.--Lenticel (talk) 04:55, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hehehe...ano ka ba? You're way, way younger than me, so you still have much time to have a love life of your own. Ako, I just turned twenty-something last week (just a few years shy from being 30), so that means more or less nasa tamang panahon lang :P --- Tito Pao (talk) 05:05, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmph. I'm in the same age range and I'm not even searching. :-D Hahahahaha. Dadating at dadating din yan. She will come if she will, and won't if she wont. No sense adding to the pressure.. But wait, Is the conversation in danger of becoming seriously OT?Alternativity (talk) 08:56, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nyahahahaha ;-) Anyways, para maging on-topic pa rin tayo...you might want to take a look at this article written by one of the lawyers who co-wrote (actually, more like "ported") the original CC license into a localized Philippine version. The article contains an extensive annotation of the CC-Phils. draft (it was a draft by the time the article was written), so I guess he did all the work for us regarding any issues and concerns between the CC-Phil. license and our current laws. (And, oh, he says he's an advocate of open content, and even has a link to the main WMF page). --- Tito Pao (talk) 10:12, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Finally, some good discussion about the upcoming meetup. However, I won't be available in Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays in the mid to late portions of May (because i'm preparing for my college entrance examination tutorial ish). Still, I'm hoping that this meetup will finally push through. -iaNLOPEZ1115 · TaLKBaCK · Vandalize it 13:35, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're not alone on that one with concern on the college entrance exams. This should be planned methodically enough that everyone can go and time is maximized. Seriously, this has to be bigger. --Sky Harbor 13:22, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Most likely this meetup might not happen due to conflicts in our individual priorities but I am hoping that the last week of May (just like in Manila 1) might work out. We can maybe set up a conference via chat on YM or Windows Live Messenger. --Exec8 (talk) 18:37, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I totally agree. An internet conference/meetup would be the best substitute to the real one. With it, we can get more participants (no need to commute). If that's the case I can certainly be present, virtually. -- Felipe Aira 15:51, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wait, does a virtual meeting still get assigned a number? (ie Manila 4?) Is there a particular reason this can't be a regular thing? Say, every last Monday of the month? Alternativity (talk) 17:58, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am inclined to share this, just so you know...in one of the online communities I belong to, we have this project of coming up with a book, where all collaboration happens (as of now) through YM conferences every two weeks. I am something like the de facto project manager of that venture, and so far things are picking up according to schedule although, naturally, there are some limitations on what we could all do under that set up (our group is planning to have a real meet-up in the near future). So I think that in our case, it may still be possible for us to arrange YM conferences in lieu of a real meet-up, though I would suggest that we come up with some guidelines on how the YM conference would go, in order for the meeting to come forward. And, yeah, we also come up with an up-to-date agenda to make sure that the online conference would move smoothly. --- Tito Pao (talk) 00:00, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think that there is no need for an assigned number since it's going to be an online conference. This meet-up page is dedicated for face-to-face meetings only. We should revert back the discussion about the virtual meeting to WP:TAMBAY. --Jojit (talk) 01:54, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed see here.--Lenticel (talk) 02:52, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I propose the first virtual meeting to be conducted via YM on May 03, 2008 at 20:00 Philippine Time. Kindly visit http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/philwiki/ for details. --Exec8 (talk) 22:01, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Objectives and Agenda

[edit]

The virtual meetup will happen on May 3, 2008 at 8:00 PM Philippine Time. This will accomodate our regional partners like in Cebu and Northern Luzon and overseas like in Australia and the United States. Our objective is to get a bigger audience and allow some participants who are either in a busy schedule or wish to keep their identity safe. One of the things we would like to discuss are:

  • Status of the organization
    • Whether to push forward as a formal Philippine organization or status quo
  • LGU project
    • Population (barangay breakdown, growth) through census.gov.ph
    • GPS location
    • Seal (flags less priority)
    • Free image of a landmark
    • Local chief executive through lcp.org.ph, lmp.org.ph, lpp.gov.ph
    • Size (land)
    • Regional and provincial maps with links
  • Rules on Philippine-related images (pictures, seals and logos) and the use of the fair-use tag.
  • Philippine Language Project (Wiktionary.org)
    • Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano, Bicol
  • Philippine Book Project (wikibooks.org)
    • Initial target to OFWs and high school students
  • Philippine Law Project (wikisource.org)
    • Laws, implementing rules and regulations, executive orders and ordinances
  • Philippine Article Assessment Project
    • Notability, Stub, Class A,B articles, featured articles

So prepare your Yahoo Messenger. I am looking forward to get a live interaction with you and to push for better understanding and cooperation. --Exec8 (talk) 13:42, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What's the Philippine Law Project? -- Felipe Aira 11:18, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure but would this be all Philippine laws in digital form? Well, that would beat the chanrobles virtual library.--Lenticel (talk) 06:22, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Messages

[edit]

May I please ask those who can to ask the Philippine-language Wikipedias to notify people of the Phiippine Wikimedia projects to join in the conference. This should be either done via banner messages or village pump messages. I'll do the Tagalog Wikipedia and the Tagalog Wiktionary.

By the way, we should keep an online repository of who will come and who will not come here by means of sign-ups. --Sky Harbor 16:15, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Manila 4 Meetup (Attempt 3)

[edit]

I propose

  • June 21 as date
  • 2:00 to 3:00 PM as time
  • Starbucks 4th floor(?) or ground floor Megamall as venue
  • Huddle for the Cebu 1 meetup and incorporation requirements (BDO opens on Saturday)

--Exec8 (talk) 11:21, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if they still have the 4/F Starbucks store or if it's just under renovation. But nevertheless, either June 14 or 21 sounds good to me. Maganda sana sa 14 kasi it's also payday, I can give my contribution as well ;-) --- Tito Pao (talk) 00:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think June 9 would be better since it is a public holiday.--Lenticel (talk) 00:49, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, June 9 has been proposed last night during the chat. There already 4 people agreed. Cloudhand also suggested that we held the meet-up at Binondo (actually, there’s also a Starbucks there). --Jojit (talk) 02:05, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ack! I also have a meeting on June 9 :-( --- Tito Pao (talk) 02:40, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Megamall na lang. Jojit tanggap mo na ba address ko at cedula?--Lenticel (talk) 03:21, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sige megamall na lang, di namam manlilibre si Cloudhand ;-). Anyway, I haven't receive your address and cedula yet, you can post it here and here. --Jojit (talk) 03:47, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm...kung sa Megamall, I think I can catch up...I can have my other meeting (somewhere in Ortigas near Megamall) scheduled for lunchtime (say, at 11pm) and end it as soon as possible so that I can make it in time at around 2 or 3 ;-) Am looking for my cedula as well. ---- Tito Pao (talk) 03:55, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nalagay ko na. Akala ko pa naman specific ang address, buti na lang at hindi.--Lenticel (talk) 03:56, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How recent should the cedula be? I got mine last February, just in time for my workplace's deadline for updating tax records. Checked my wallet and found it there, I only need to know if the date on it is acceptable for this purpose. --- Tito Pao (talk) 04:44, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Basta this year okay na ata.--Lenticel (talk) 04:57, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it should be 2008. By the way, regarding address, I have seen some AoI samples that indicate the complete address. Probably, just for privacy and presentation purposes, we would be keeping the format as posted in the meta (i.e. City or Municipality, Province) then we can state the complete address in the actual document if the SEC requires it. --Jojit (talk) 05:35, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Resetting indent Thanks for the heads up. I'll be updating the notarial acknowledgement page on Meta with my cedula's date and place of issuance. If needed, I'll provide at least 2 photocopies of my cedula.--- Tito Pao (talk) 05:59, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

most likely june 21 since we have two weeks to fix and debate on the by-laws and one week to wait for ChapCom's comments. --Exec8 (talk) 17:34, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good, good, good...I can make it on June 21 then, will cancel all appointments for that date once June 21 is confirmed ^___^ --- Tito Pao (talk) 02:14, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Manila 4 (Attempt 4)

[edit]
Date: July 13, 2008 (Sunday), tentative
Time: 3:00 PM (tentative)
Venue: Starbucks SM Megamall (tentative)

Moved to July pending completion of By-laws. Votation set for July 5, 2008. --Exec8 (talk) 14:41, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Given the slow pace of discussion on the By-laws online, I would recommend setting one or two physical meetups to complete this. Likewise, people should follow up on discussions on a regular basis. (N.B.: for all readers, Wikimedia Philippines is still looking for participants in its activities. If you are interested, see here.) --Sky Harbor 12:58, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Manila 4 (Attempt 4)

[edit]

Since the target date of Incorporation (on or before August 1) nears, I would like to ask if you are in favor of the June 14, 2008 target date to vote the By-laws draft or move it to another date like June 21 or 28 . The 5th PhilWiki Chat will be conducted Sunday after the submission of the By-laws to the ChapCom and Manila 4 will be Sunday after the 5th PhilWiki Chat. --Exec8 (talk) 20:53, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

At the rate we're going, it's going to be a while before we are able to polish the By-laws. I suggest Chapcom submission of the AoI and BL in early July. (Say, you haven't given your extensive comments on the BL yet, Exec8.) --seav (talk) 02:51, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Once we finish the review, can we seek the help of a lawyer before we submit it to ChapCom? There could be some legal issues on the By-laws that only professionals may know. Anyo Niminus' lawyer friend offered a free legal service for us. We can invite his friend to one of our meet-ups.--Jojit (talk) 05:11, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is best to have lawyer(s) look at the by-laws this early, this way we can make a better collaboration and provide a simple, fair and legal org document. I therefore move the target date to July 5 and submit to ChapCom on July 6. The 5th PhilWiki Chat will be conducted on June 21 to discuss strategies for the succeeding six weeks of paperworks and to provide support for the delegates of Cebu 1 Meeting and POSS. Manila 4 on the other hand will be on July 13 and there is a possibility that we may need to renew reservation of the corporate name and extend deadline on October 2008. --Exec8 (talk) 14:52, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Manila 4 (Attempt 5)

[edit]

Before we move discussions to its page, I ask your inputs whether you'll be available. Please fill the table so we can make a consensus. Topic will be focused at the pending By-laws and WMPH incorporation. We also need to discuss some things like the regional language wikipedia development and the result of Cebu 1 (I am not aware if "Frank" suspends that meetup). --Exec8 (talk) 21:57, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's a bright and sunny day in Cebu last June 23 and 24. :) I attended the second day of the summit and I accompanied my wife at E-governance seminar at the second floor of the CICC. For the result of Cebu 1, see this. By the way, I already have my cedula and I will post it at the meta in a few minutes. --Jojit (talk) 07:13, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Availability for Manila 4
User Preferred Date Preferred Time Preferred Venue Notes
Exec8 July 12 2:00 PM Starbucks SM Megamall Flexible as long as its weekend.
Sky Harbor July 12 2:00 PM Starbucks SM Megamall Be advised that I have a dental appointment at 11:00 am in Parañaque, so I might be late.
Lenticel Weekends, but not July 12 2:00 PM Starbucks SM Megamall Flexible as long as its weekend. July 12 is "family day"

Follow-up: I have invited one of the Wikipedians of the Tagalog Wikipedia to Manila 4. He is suggesting that we use the CCP Little Theater Lobby (otherwise known as the Bulwagang Carlos V. Francisco) as the meeting place (he has connections to the CCP staff as the creator of the official CCP Frienster profile). Study tour, anyone (and a chance for free pics of the PICC, the Sofitel Philippine Plaza, the BSP and the CCP for the Wikipedias)? --Sky Harbor (talk) 14:09, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Manila 4 (Attempt 6)

[edit]

July 12 at Starbucks might not work. As shown on one discussion section above, I am open switching venue to CCP (never been to CCP since High School). I recommend July 19 at 2pm but it depends (again) on your availability and willingness to go to CCP. I am willing to spend up to PhP 1500 for snacks and drinks for participants (yeah I did something like that on Manila 1). We can discuss language translations of places like "Southern Leyte" or "Autonomous Region on Muslim Mindanao" with resource speakers. --Exec8 (talk) 00:17, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First Wikipedia Tambayan Gimik

[edit]

I invite you next week for the first gimik of the Wikipedia Tambayan. We cant make it as Manila 4 since it is informal. Two wikipedians already provided their intent. If we are less than 10, its my treat!

  • July 19, 2008 (Saturday)
  • 2:00 PM
  • SM Mall of Asia. Figaro, second floor near Food court and Ice Skating rink.

Possible places to visit:

  • Seaside restaurants in San Miguel by the Bay
  • CCP Cinemalaya

So if you are interested, include your name in the list.

List of Attendees
  1. Exec8 --Exec8 (talk) 12:41, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Jojit_fb
  3. Delfin Dakila
  4. seav

Final Results

[edit]
It turned out to be Manila 4 since technically no gimik happened, and no visit to CCP for cinemalaya.
Actual list of attendees include:
  1. Exec8
  2. Jojit_fb
  3. Katimawan2005 of Kapampangan wiki.
We used the opportunity to formally invite him and Val2397 to Tambayan Philippines. Katimawan2005 agreed to provide assistance for the creation of Wikimedia Philippines (hopefully to resume February 2009). We also discussed the Kapampangan language completion of LGU articles and possible creation of Kapampangan wiktionaty incubator. Jojit and I expressed support for Katimawan2005 and Val2397's elevation as bureaucrat in the the Kapampangan wikipedia.

Manila 5

[edit]

Most likely Manila 5 might also happen in SM Mall of Asia on September 13 or September 14, 2008 in time of this event. --Exec8 (talk) 12:31, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
