Wikimeetup Kentucky #1

W.T. Young Library, University of Kentucky

Saturday, June 1, 2013 — 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
W.T. Young Library, University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky

The 1st Wikimeetup Kentucky will be held in Lexington, Kentucky on Saturday, June 1, 2013. This will be conducted during the very first THATCamp in Kentucky. Be sure and register for THATCamp KY too- kentucky2013.thatcamp.org/registration.

Everyone is welcome: those who have never worked on Wikipedia as well as users. Bring a laptop if you can; if you can't, that's not a problem - you can borrow a laptop available for use in the library.

This will be a social gathering for users of the wiki projects operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. We can chat about Wikimedia projects in detail and share experiences in a casual setting.

Note that people of all ages and all Wikipedia projects are welcome! Please also invite any Wiki people you know (or have had wiki dealings with) – spread the word!

No, but let me know about future events

Post-Meetup Summary and Outcomes We had a terrific meeting on Saturday afternoon - it was part of the first THATCampKY (see the list of participant proposals for sessions here http://kentucky2013.thatcamp.org/. Several attendees created accounts and some renewed theirs as Sydney Poore led the demonstration and discussion. There were many different topics covered, including why some content "sticks" and others don't. There were approximately 15 participants from various parts of the state, including from Lexington, Louisville, Morehead and Covington -- and some people came from as far away as Atlanta (Georgia) and Manitoba, Canada. We also spoke in depth on the ethics of open access and crowdsourcing of general knowledge content. One outcome is that Sydney has promised to partner with Morehead State University to offer a professional development session on Wikipedia there later this year.
