Wikipedia talk:Meetup/East Lansing/MSU Libraries Edit-a-thon for the Year of Global Africa

Will this workshop focus uniquely on content for the English language Wikipedia, or is it intended more widely, to include also African language editions? Seems that MSU, with a large number of African students and not a few students of African languages, ought to be able to produce some significant content on African women in some African languages (even if limited to quality stubs). If useful, I'd be glad to join to help facilitate issues with input of extended Latin used for certain languages (and perhaps some content on ff.wikipdia.org & bm.wikipedia.org).--A12n (talk) 01:28, 24 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@A12n: Thanks for contacting us! I'm one of the organizers of the event, and we have identified some potential article topics for the English-language Wikipedia that attendees might wish to pursue, for which we have gathered useful sources. This is not a prescribed list, and we aim to be responsive to the interests of attendees! Both of MSU's African Studies librarians will be present at the event. We hope the event will inspire ongoing activity, so this would be a great time to discuss potential ideas for contributing to the interlanguage Wikipedias at MSU, and/or to jump in and contribute to any of the African language Wikipedia sites during the event itself. --TimK MSI (talk) 15:13, 24 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thx @TimK MSI: Hope to be able to join you at least for part of the time. Have passed on a note to Galen Sibanda the Coordinator of the African Languages Program, on the chance he & colleagues might be interested (apologies all around for the presumption). Personally I think there is a tole for Wikipedia editions in African and other non-dominant languages in teaching LCTLs - a role that respects both the integrity of the Wikipedia editions in question and provides useful, topic focused learning for students.
