Did a quick check and No Rugby that day - SimonLyall (talk) 10:18, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Venue

[edit]

The "back room" and Galbraiths seems to be the primary choice. Any other suggestions? Personally I'd go for a Back room of a cafe somewhere but I can't think of any. Needs to be fairly central. - SimonLyall (talk) 10:18, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was in the area at 2ish today and had a look around, the bar area was only half full and the area we were looking at no people in so it should be okay to book. I also had a look at "De Post" in Mt Eden village (a couple of doors along from the cafe we were in last time). It looks fairly nice too and was pretty empty with a lot of space especially on the upper floor. Have a look at Their website (includes menus etc) . I'm pretty happy with either. Feedback by Monday please as I'll probably make booking sometime on Tuesday. - SimonLyall (talk) 08:26, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Publicity

[edit]

Once venue is confirm we need to update Wikipedia:Meetup/Auckland and probably do a geonotice. - SimonLyall (talk) 10:24, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated Wikipedia:Meetup/Auckland now since it might allow more people to have a say on the suitability of the venue.-gadfium 21:23, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Geonotice requested and update made to Wikipedia:Meetup/Auckland - SimonLyall (talk) 07:32, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have notified Category:Wikipedians in Auckland and Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: University of Auckland. A search for more would probably be a good idea though - lots of people don't categorize themselves (or use userboxes). I nearly missed this myself with a field trip, but managed to reschedule. Wikipedia comes first :) Richard001 (talk) 06:42, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have been searching user pages for the string "University of Auckland" and have been amazed by how many people from my university have a page here. Most of them, however, don't seem to be real editors [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] (just a few examples). Rather, they have just created a user page. Perhaps this was an assignment or something? I can't see why else so many people would bother to create an account. Rather annoying for finding real university students, however, unless I can find a better way of searching (and neither Wikipedia or Google seem very good at it). Richard001 (talk) 09:08, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The geonotice probably isn't going to happen; the maintainer of the feature isn't active at the moment.-gadfium 19:02, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have notified every reasonably active person who seems to be from the UoA or AUT, though there must be more that are from Auckland. I'm now looking for the string "live in Auckland". It would be a bit easier if everyone would just put themselves in the category I created, Category:Wikipedians in Auckland, though. Richard001 (talk) 20:37, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The geonotice guy seems to be active in commons, is it worth trying to contact him there? - SimonLyall (talk) 20:39, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You can try. I'm going by the message I got on my talk page.-gadfium 20:49, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Parking

[edit]

You used to be able to get a card/flyer from the bar if you were patron there which exempted you from parking fees. Not sure what hours/days that applies to, or if it's still going. Cheers, DerbyCountyinNZ (talk) 09:51, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
