TFA blurb review

[edit]

George Tucker (August 20, 1775 – April 10, 1861) was an American lawyer, politician, author, and educator. He wrote the first in-depth biography of Thomas Jefferson, the first fictional account of colonial life in Virginia, and the book series The History of the United States. Despite a social life which had been profligate, and at times even scandalous, at age 50 he was named Professor of Moral Philosophy at the newly founded University of Virginia and served in that post for twenty years. A son of the first mayor of Hamilton, Bermuda, he immigrated to Virginia at age 20, was educated at the College of William and Mary, and was admitted to the bar. He was elected in 1816 to the Virginia House of Delegates, then served in the United States House of Representatives from 1819 to 1825. In 1827 he wrote A Voyage to the Moon, one of America's earliest works of science fiction. He also produced diverse monologues on slavery, suffrage, morality, intracoastal navigation, wages, and banking. (Full article...)

Hoppyh (and anyone else interested): thoughts and edits are welcome. There's no rush; this hasn't been scheduled at TFA yet. This batch finishes up blurbs for FACs promoted in 2016. - Dank (push to talk) 23:38, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit is great, thanks. - Dank (push to talk) 14:28, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to help, though I have no experience with TFA. Is the blurb length ok? TFA references 975 characters. I have put this on my watchlist—is that the best way to track this? I don’t want to miss it if it goes up. I’m not used to THIS kind of notoriety! Hoppyh (talk) 14:41, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Trust me, it's a very dim spotlight to be under :) Blurb length is good. Is there any day you prefer for this to run? - Dank (push to talk) 15:04, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Any day is fine—gamblers like Tucker can’t afford to be picky—let her rip, pal. Hoppyh (talk) 15:27, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Birthday, August 20? - Dank (push to talk) 15:34, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That’s fine; depending on your queue, also Jefferson’s birthday, April 13.Hoppyh (talk) 15:42, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Added birthday to the text on the assumption it will run that day. - Dank (push to talk) 16:40, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The text is up to 1048 now ... I'll remove the birth and death dates for now, that will help. - Dank (push to talk) 00:05, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I did not intend that; let me know the character count excess and I will correct. Hoppyh (talk) 02:32, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's 1026. It's never happened during my tenure (a little over 5 years) that we ran someone on their birthday but didn't include the dates because that would put us over the limit ... so, I really have no idea. It might be fine the way it is, or it might need to be 22 characters shorter. - Dank (push to talk) 02:35, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I understand—I made a pass at it. I can cut further, let me know. Hoppyh (talk) 02:54, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine. - Dank (push to talk) 02:58, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
