TFA blurb review

[edit]
Jacques Anquetil at the 1962 Tour de France
Jacques Anquetil

The 1962 Tour de France was the 49th edition of the Tour de France, one of cycling's Grand Tours. The 4,274-kilometre (2,656 mi) race consisted of 22 stages, including two split stages, starting in Nancy on 24 June and finishing at the Parc des Princes in Paris on 15 July. For the first time since 1929, the Tour was contested by trade teams instead of national teams. Jacques Anquetil's victory in the individual time trial of stage 20 put him in the general classification leader's yellow jersey, which he held until the conclusion of the race to win his third Tour de France, defending his title. Jef Planckaert placed second, and Raymond Poulidor third. In the other race classifications, Rudi Altig won the points classification, and Federico Bahamontes won the mountains classification. Anquetil's team Saint-Raphaël–Helyett–Hutchinson won the team classification, and Eddy Pauwels won the award for most combative rider. Altig and Emile Daems won the most stages, with three each. Is it too long now? Not much more than the 2012 Tour blurb. If so, the Simpson sentence can go (adding "race leader's" to the next sentence). BaldBoris 19:58, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Either remove the Simpson sentence or all the teams? The teams aren't too important for a blurb. BaldBoris 20:10, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The max is 1025; that was 1240. Now we're at 983, so we have a little room left, but not much. Saint-Raphaël–Helyett–Hutchinson deserves a spot in the blurb because they won the team classification. Even if other teams did something notable, there isn't room to cover that. - Dank (push to talk) 20:20, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It was a bit disjointed, so I merged the two Anquetil sentences. I didn't mean remove Saint-Raphaël winning the team classification, just the team of each rider. I've moved the team classification to where it was previously, and added the top stages winners. Now it's 1017. BaldBoris 00:25, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Looks great. - Dank (push to talk) 00:36, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Shall I nominated it, or leave it to you? The 2012 article was on the front on the penultimate day of the 2017 Tour de France. Any time during a Tour would be fine. The 1989 Tour FAC is nearing its end, so there might be two to choose from. BaldBoris 03:01, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, go ahead ... WP:TFAP is easier and almost always works. If it looks like you'll get competition for the date, try WP:TFAR. - Dank (push to talk) 04:29, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
