Converting redirect to disambiguation page

[edit]

I was going to put this in an edit summary, but by the time I’ve figured out what to change the page to per MOS:DAB, I’ll probably have forgotten what I wanted to write, so I decided just to leave it in a talk page note.

I’m going to boldly convert this redirect into a disambiguation page — given that (for one thing), to a user unaware of the Wikipedia differences between banning and blocking, a reference to a ‘banhammer’ could (in my opinion) be taken as a reference to either one. Yes, this could be — and is — mitigated with a hatnote at the destination, but Wikipedia:Banning policy currently suffers from extreme hatnote clutter[a], which is another reason why I’m turning this into a DAB page.

Given that this redirect has been to RfD once before, I considered sending it again to check if there was consensus for a proposal to disambiguate. However, given the low number of page views, and that this redirect is not linked anywhere meaningful on-wiki (for twoone reasons), I ultimately decided against it in favour of a bold action. Please feel free to revert this change if you disagree with this DABification.

Damn. That was longer than I thought it’d be. Perhaps it’s a good thing it was on the talk page and not in an edit summary after all.

Notes

  1. ^ Side note: how is there not an essay on this subject yet? Or at least if there is one, I couldn’t find it.

I was wrong about ‘not being linked anywhere meaningfully on-wiki’. It turns out I was looking at the ‘what links here’ for Wikipedia talk:BANHAMMER, not Wikipedia:BANHAMMER. A smart kitten (talk) 00:10, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
