"They suggest that Wikipedia cannot be trusted"

This essay states, as a negative example of the effect of amboxes, that they reduce trust in Wikipedia. However, this is a good thing. Wikipedia should not be trusted; nor should we want Wikipedia to be trusted. Trust is something you do when you have no other option. But we are writing an encyclopedia where everything must be verifiable. You do not have to take our word for it that someone has stated X on a topic; you can verify that that is so.

Wikipedia's aim is not, and should not be, to be "trusted". We should strive to ensure that trust is never necessary. A glaring warning at the top of the page is a good thing, because it might make readers engage their brain and analyse what they are reading critically, rather than simply taking it all as truth.
