All this template does, when transcluded, is supply one of these three:
- Date of current most-recent edition

Note that you can also get the pure volume and issue numbers with subtemplates:

Editing
Those last two templates (/Volume and /Issue) do brittle string-splitting, and as such require this template's output with the param 2
to be formatted as "blahblahblah volumenumber, blahblahblah issuenumber" (they split the string by the space character, and then parse out the appropriate segment as digits). If anyone ever changes this template (or, more accurately, changes SPS.js which is what determines how the content of this template is generated), they should keep that in mind.
