Club Updates
[edit]- In place of our weekly workshop tomorrow, we will be co-hosting the Women in Computing Edit-a-thon 2017 with Ohio State's ACM-W chapter! The event starts at 6:30 in Dreese Labs 264; remember to bring a laptop. Jimmy John's and beverages will be provided. We hope to see you there!
- Applications for scholarships to Wikimania 2017 are due February 20. Learn more about the process here, and take some time to apply here. If you need any help with your application or would like some pointers, don't hesitate to reach out to Kevin or Maria. Note that later in the year, we will also be applying for travel grants from Ohio State - though please be sure to also fill out the Wikimania scholarship if interested!
- Our friend and Board Member Addis Wang has left Columbus as he journeys to the next chapter of his life. We're all appreciative of Addis' work and have been glad to have had him on-board over the last year. We will continue to keep in touch, both online and off. Thanks for everything, Addis!
- Officer elections are set to take place at our workshop on February 22. As our President and Vice President are graduating this semester, there will be a big shift in officer roles. If you are interested in running for a position, please let Kevin know of your intent to run for a position. More details will be provided soon.
- We're participating in The 50,000 Challenge! The aim is to make 50,000 article improvements and creations for the United States. In particular, Wikipedia Connection will be aiming to improve articles related to Ohio. Be sure to sign up if you're interested.
Member Features
[edit]This week, we'd like to recognize some of content created by our members at our weekly workshops:
- Emery created Standing Figure of Nefertiti as a translation from the German Wikipedia, as well as expanded Trabant 601 and Afrikahaus (Hamburg).
- Kevin created Jeffers Mound, a Native American burial mound in Worthington, Ohio.
- Kitty expanded Circleville Pumpkin Show, an article about an annual pumpkin show near Columbus.
Be sure to check out the Spring 2017 Program, which tracks our members' contributions. If you've made a contribution you'd like featured in a future newsletter, please let Kevin know.
