Wikipedia:Wiki Science New Zealand 2021

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wiki Science New Zealand 2021 is a scientific photo contest; its goal is to promote science in New Zealand and encourage people to donate freely-usable images of science and scientists. It runs from 1 November to 15 December 2021, and is part of the international Wiki Science Competition that runs every two years. This competition was first run in Estonia, expanded to all of Europe in 2015, and to the rest of the world in 2017.

About

[edit]

Photos are welcome of scientists, research subjects and the research process.

What we're looking for:

  • The picture should be sharp, the colours accurate, and the image exposed and framed correctly.
  • Accurate image information is essential. The description should make clear "Who is there in the picture? How is the photo taken? Where is the photo taken? What should you pay attention to?". Links to peer-reviewed publications are encouraged.
  • The uploader must be the copyright owner. Under New Zealand law, that means the person who created the image – that is, pushed the shutter button. If the image was taken on the job, the employer likely owns the copyright, which means an authorised representative has to release the photo under an open licence. If you're not sure about the copyright status of your photos, ask the organiser (below).
  • Photos that have potential uses in education, the media, and Wikipedia articles are very welcome.

For images, the full-sized original and .JPG format are preferred. All photos uploaded should be released under an open Creative Commons licence, such as CC Attribution 4.0 International.

Use the hashtag #WikiScience2021 to spread the word!
