This is an undergraduate-level survey of Mexican American Women’s history from the 20th century to the present. Students will learn about the emergence of the field and gain a broad understanding of its evolving historiography over the last three decades. Students will explore the social, political, economic and cultural trends within the context of Mexican American women’s life experiences. Using the broad themes of the borderlands, immigration, labor, citizenship, sexuality, popular culture, education, and politics students will utilize these in order to better interrogate those experiences. The course is designed to help students better understand the various experiences and perspectives of Mexican American women across space and time.
As future scholars, students will use Wikipedia to contribute their understanding of this complex history via a public platform, and share their knowledge with a real world audience.
