This course is a broad look at the many different Indigenous tribes located in North America. We examine their lifeways all the way from before European arrival to the present with a focus on looking at culture, history, and adaptations used by the various tribes to survive in multivariate landscapes. We also explore Indigenous worldview using a 'compare and contrast' method with Western ideas like Manifest Destiny and monotheism as well as look more closely at the many modern movements now changing the way Indigenous people are shown and are thought of in places as diverse as film, universities and even Rap music. My main goal is the change the way people think of Indigenousness. I want to help people to understand the many incredible scientific and sociological innovations invented by the tribes of North America and how these traditional knowledge practices can be useful in a modern context as well! In fact, there are many such practices being utilized by many Westerners without the knowledge of where that information came from in the first place such as Maslow's hierarchy of needs idea which was based on Indigenous worldview and tribal practices for example.
