Lin 206 investigates English language variation from a socio-linguistic perspective. Social, regional, ethnic, gender, and stylistic-related language variation, along with models for describing and applying knowledge about language variation. Language variation focuses on varieties of global Englishes, particular varieties will include: American (including Gullah, Hawai'ian Creole, New England varieties, Southern varieties, and Western varieties), Australian, Canadian, British, Filipino, and Indian.
