Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Peer review/Mega Man 2
Appearance
This article has not had a peer review yet. This seems like a good candidate among most Mega Man articles to become GA with some work, but I'd like to know how best to get there. Any advice or criticism of the article will be helpful. Thanks. Lumaga (talk) 05:13, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit]I'm glad to see such an old an iconic game getting some editing attention. This will be a tough one because of the scarcity of sources, but hopefully GA is attainable. Here are the issues that stood out to me.
- The lead
- If you're going to include the Japanese name, I would include the Japanese characters: ロックマン2 Dr.ワイリーの謎. Done
- Second sentence in a row to start with "it", I would change it for variety and tweak for simplicity; the infobox lists the details. "Europe" is missing too: "Done
ItThe game was released on December 24, 1988 in Japan, and later in 1989 and 1990July1989 in North America, andDecember 14, 1990Europe respectively." - The sentence about the reception "Mega Man 2 has sold over 1.5 million copies..." seems out of place. The lead should mirror the flow of the entire article. I would move it to the end of the second paragraph. Done
- I wouldn't worry about citations in the lead unless it is a bold claim. The statement about the "staples of the series" might need one. The release dates don't need to be cited in the lead, I would move them to the infobox. Done
- Spelling: I believe "re-release" should be "rerelease". But I think both are acceptable. Done
- The VC releases can be summarized in the lead. The article is for details. Done
- Tweak to remove redundancy and POV: "The game is considered by many publications to be the best title in the series,
and, by some,as well as one of the greatest video gamesever made." Done
- Story
- I would combine the first sentence to the second paragraph. A single sentence can not stand on its own as a paragraph. Done
- I would rewrite this section in a more out-of-universe perspective. For example: "
Just when everyone thought they could live in peace and that an age of prosperity had dawned upon them, the evilDr. Wily, the main antagonist of the game and series, who had threatened the world once already, revealed that he hadbuilt a new fortress andanarmy of robotic henchmen..." Done - Other examples include: "He unleashed", "Once again", etc. Done
- Gameplay
- Trim for out-of-universe and redundancy: "The player controls Mega Man
, a robot who fights for peace,as he travelsrses six different stages to defeattheDr. Wily's Robot Mastersof Dr. Wily." - I would trim the amount of content in the "New features" subsection and integrate it into the rest of the "Gameplay" section. This whole section should be less of a comparison and more of a description. I would also keep details down to avoid WP:GAMEGUIDE.
- Same thing with "Robot Masters", I would integrate it with the rest of the section. Done
- Switch word; sounds more professional to me: "Upon
beating thedefeating a Robot Master..." - Tweak: "These items are platforms that allow the player to access certain areas of stages
go places that the he or she would not otherwise."
- Development
- I would start the paragraph with something like: "Mega Man 2 was developed and published by Capcom."
- The "Music" subsection is too small to stand on its own. I would add the content to the rest of the development paragraph. Done
- Reception
- This section may not be large enough to stand on its own. I would consolidate this with the next section and rename it "Reception and legacy" Done
- I would get rid of the review table because the two scores there are based on user submitted scores. Done
- Legacy and re-releases
- The information about how this game effected the series should be sourced.
- I would include a brief sentence about some of the bosses being in Mega Man II (handheld game).
- I would combine the paragraph about the rereleases with the novelization to make a subsection of "Reception and legacy", and title it "Rereleases and novelization". Done
- References
- I would do some formatting for the info in the refs. Like Wikilink some of the publishers. Nintendo Power, 1UP.com, and GameSpot instead of gamespot.com.
I hope this helps some, it needs some work to make it to GA, but it looks doable. Good luck and keep up the good work. (Guyinblack25 talk 20:05, 18 August 2008 (UTC))
