Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Peer review/List of Mega Man weapons

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I've been slowly incresing this article's content and confromity ever since I made the Z-Saber article, and now, despite my obcession with it, I can no longer find anything wrong with it. I think its finally nearing "featured article status", and I very much welcome any and all critisism regarding improvement in anyway. -ZeroTalk 00:30, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't read through it yet, but it's definitely not featured article status. Two problems jump right out at me: no lead section and no references. --Pagrashtak 00:46, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. The leading section shouldn;t be too difficult, and the refernces are the games themselves; gotten after completing them and making through analysis.

References

I just added an introduction statement as well. -ZeroTalk 01:24, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here's some more detailed notes:
  • The lead section needs to be greatly expanded; it's just filler right now. It should be a summary or overview of the article, preparing the reader.
  • The references should go in the article, not here ;). CVG articles are hard to reference, and a list like this is near impossible. If nothing else you can reference instruction manuals. Statements like "It is a particle-based energy weapon that uses compressed solar energy to create physical impact." need a reference - I've played several Mega Man games, but did not know this.
  • I did some copyediting on the "Mega Man series weaponry" section. If you'll notice, I removed statements such as "by holding down the fire button on the controller" - don't tell the reader how to play the game, just describe the weapons and what they do. Check your links and fix links to dab pages like plasma. Also check for redirects (I see you've got Mega Man 4 instead of Mega Man IV in one place for example. Refer to the character consistently - the previous version used both "Mega Man" and "Rock". Use present tense when appropriate (It worked -> It works). Be on the lookout for excess wordiness (propel its way back -> return). Finally, don't put links in section headers.
  • Under Upgrades and transmogrifications, you list the Mega Buster, which was the focus of the entire section above it; redundancies like this need to be removed, keep thoughts confined to the proper section.
  • You use the word fictional a lot to describe the weapons. After a proper lead section is created, the user will know that these weapons are all fictional, and this won't be needed.
  • Get rid of "filler" words that don't say anything like actually, in and of itself, etc.
  • There are many game titles that are not italicized.
  • In the X-Buster section, you have a subsection "Facts" with one bullet. Everything is the main section above it is a fact, combine this into one section. The same goes for other such sections.
  • You have a lot of section headers with only two or three sentences, which creates an unwieldy TOC. Consider recasting these into their parent sections.
  • In the Mega Man Zero weaponry section, after the pistol link, there's a pretty sizable section without any wiki links.
  • The article would be much more readable if you rewrote to avoid sentence fragments. Instead of Weapon Introduced in foo. Does bar., try something like Introduced in foo, weapon does bar. This will also come in handy when rewriting to eliminate those excess section headers.
  • The images need fair-use rationale added; some are even using obsolete tags like {{PD}}. --Pagrashtak 04:29, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Everything except the opening sentence should be pretty easy to fix. I keep writng up opening statements, but none of them are competent enough in my opinion. Any suggesstions..? -ZeroTalk 14:34, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Update: I have fixed most of the requested problems with the article as per your critisism above. The only thing left now is the opening summary - I just cannot think of a good beggining liner. Any ideas..? -ZeroTalk 15:23, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For some reason I didn't think of this before, but shouldn't a list of Mega Man weapons include Robot Master weapons? This page should probably be broken by game, each giving a table of the weapons available in that game. --Pagrashtak 23:20, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No. That's already included in the robot Master article. But about the opening statement... -ZeroTalk 05:24, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Any article called "List of Mega Man weapons" should contain all Mega Man weapons, don't you think? Anyways, I'd check out Wikipedia:Featured lists to get an idea for the lead section as well as general structure, etc. --Pagrashtak 06:00, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The main reason we don't include the robot master weapons is because of redundancy. The Robot master's article has them, Mega Man's article already describes the varible weapons system, and on top of that, looking at Gamefaqs, I see dozens upon dozens of faqs listing robot master weapons. Its just too redundant, and it would saturate the article. I may make a table in a seperate article however, but still, its somwhat pointless. Concerning the Featured list, I make sure to give it a try. Anything else..? -ZeroTalk 06:08, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The FAQs at GameFAQs don't have any impact. Theoretically, everything we write here can be found somewhere else, as Wikipedia doesn't allow original research. I think the Robot Master article should focus on Robot Masters and this article should focus on the weapons. It's all right if there's slight overlap. --Pagrashtak 00:28, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
