The Turing Scholars program, named after the mathematician Alan Turing, is an honors program for computer science majors at The University of Texas at Austin. The program, launched in the fall of 2002, admits no more than 50 students each year. The program provides exceptional undergraduates the opportunity to advance quickly through the core computer science curriculum and become involved in research.
The Turing Scholars program provides the advantages of a small college - small class sizes, close interaction with faculty, early entry into research - with the advantages of a notable research university - a large variety of computer science courses and ample opportunities for interdisciplinary studies.
Student feedback, internships, hires, and continuing education are markers of the success of the program. Alumni are employed by a variety of companies, including Google, IBM, Microsoft, and Sony. Graduates have entered medical school at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and Ph.D. programs at Stanford (Computer Science), Rochester (Brain and Cognitive Science), and The University of Texas at Austin (Computational and Applied Mathematics).
