• Start templates
  • {{Rail start}} start of route information box for national rail. Headings for preceding and following station and a link to national rail
  • {{Disused rail start}} start of disused route information (for disused tracks). Heading for preceding and following station and a link to the disused rail category
  • {{Historical Rail Start}} start of information of the Original Line info (for historic services over tracks still in use). Heading for preceding and following station.
• Line templates |next= / |previous= are the stations served on either side; |route= is the company and/or route, |col= is the colour of the dividing columns (see Template talk:Rail line if in doubt). For Historical Lines in Scotland, the colour corresponds to that relating to the pre-1923 company as given in WPTIS Talk Page. Where there is more than one route, |previous1= is the stations on the first route, |previous2= is on the second route, etc. Omission of either |next= or |previous= will generally cause a default to Terminus, but this is not the case for |next1=, |previous1= etc.
  • {{Rail line}} Details of the rail line stopping at the station. Parameters: | previous= | next= | route= | col=

There are also many variants to deal with merging lines. In the examples below, {{{col}}} is blue █ , {{{col1}}} is yellow █, {{{col2}}} is red █ and {{{col3}}} is green █.
