The Album
Achtung Baby was released on November 19, 1991, and followed with the massive Zoo TV Tour.
The album represents a marked change in U2's sound, coming after Bono's Lovetown Tour announcement that the band was going to "go away and dream it all up again".
Achtung Baby is one of U2's most critically acclaimed albums, sometimes called one of rock's best.
Despite the "thin layer of trash" on the record, Achtung Baby is markedly darker than some of U2's earlier work.
The U.S. album cover is the only one to feature an uncensored picture of Adam naked on the cover montage.
"Achtung baby" means "Careful, baby" or "Attention baby"; it was used frequently during recording, and came from the Mel Brooks film The Producers.
