[edit]The railroad of The Wichita Falls and Southern Railway Company, herein called Wichita Falls and Southern, extending from Wichita Falls to Newcastle, 52.426 miles.
Introductory
[edit]The Wichita Falls and Southern is a corporation of the State of Texas, having its principal office at Wichita Falls, Tex.
The Wichita Falls and Southern is controlled by the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway Company through ownership of a majority of its outstanding capital stock. On the other hand, the records do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation.
The property of the Wichita Falls and Southern was operated by its own organization from the date it was placed in operation, January 1, 1909, to April 30, 1914. From that date to December 31, 1917, it was operated by the Katy of Texas, and from January 1, 1918, to date of valuation it was operated by the United States Railroad Administration as a part of the operating unit of the Katy of Texas.
Corporate History
[edit]The Wichita Falls and Southern was incorporated June 1, 1907, under the general laws of the State of Texas, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Wichita Falls to Cisco, Tex., a distance of about 125 miles. The date of organization of the Wichita Falls and Southern was not determined.
Development of Fixed Physical Property
[edit]The owned mileage of the Wichita Falls and Southern, 52.426 miles, was all acquired by construction. Records do not indicate how or when the road was constructed, but it was completed and placed in operation on January 1, 1909.
Leased Railway Property
[edit]The entire property of the Wichita Falls and Southern is leased to the Katy of Texas for a term of 99 years from May 1, 1914. The terms of the lease and the rental accrued for the year ended December 31, 1917, are given in the chapter on leased railway property of the report on the Katy of Texas.
