Wichita Falls & Oklahoma Railway
[edit]Location and General Description of Property
[edit]The railroad of the Wichita Falls & Oklahoma Railway Company, herein called the Wichita Falls & Oklahoma, is a single-track line, extending northeasterly from Wichita Falls to Byers, Tex., 22.075 miles.
Introductory
[edit]The Wichita Falls & Oklahoma is a corporation of the State of Texas, having its principal corporate office at Wichita Falls, Tex., and its business office at Fort Worth, Tex. It is controlled by the Colorado and Southern, through ownership of the entire outstanding capital stock, except directors' shares. On the other hand, the records reviewed do not indicate that the Wichita Falls & Oklahoma, itself, controls any common-carrier corporation. The property has been operated, under lease, by the Wichita Valley Railway since March 23, 1904, when the first section of the road was placed in operation. However, the accounts of the Wichita Falls & Oklahoma do not record results from operations prior to January 1, 1906.
Corporate History
[edit]The Wichita Falls & Oklahoma was incorporated October 26, 1903, under the general laws of the State of Texas for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from a point of connection with road of the Wichita Valley Railway at, or near, Wichita Falls, Tex., to a point on the Red River, about 30 miles. The date of its organization was January 15, 1904.
Development of Fixed Physical Property
[edit]The owned mileage of the Wichita Falls & Oklahoma, extending from Wichita Falls to Byers, Tex., 22.075 miles, was acquired by construction during the period 1903 to 1905. In the construction of the road the grading was performed under contract by Maney Brothers and the depots at Byers and Petrolia, Tex., were built under contract by Moore and Richolt. The tracklaying and surfacing was performed by the company's own forces.
Leased Railway Property
[edit]The entire property of the Wichita Falls & Oklahoma is leased to the Wichita Valley Railway, under the terms of a lease extending for a period of five years from February 1, 1908. The terms of the lease and the rental accrued for the year ending on date of valuation are given in the chapter on leased railway property of the report on the Wichita Valley Railway.
