The railroad of the Washington Run Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in southwestern Pennsylvania. The main line extends southwesterly from Layton to Star Junction, a distance of 4.091 miles. The carrier also owns 3.790 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 7.881 miles of all tracks owned and used.
- CORPORATE HISTORY
The carrier was incorporated April 25, 1895, under the general laws of the State of Pennsylvania, for the purpose of constructing a railroad to connect the properties of the Washington Coal & Coke Company with trunk-line railroads.
- DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY
The road owned by the carrier, extending from Layton to Star Junction, Pa., a distance of 4.091 miles, was acquired by construction. The work, which was performed by contract, was begun in April, 1895, and the road was completed and placed in operation about January 1, 1900. The records reviewed do not indicate that the contractors were affiliated with the carrier.
