CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated July 9, 1907, under the general laws of the State of Pennsylvania, for the purpose of connecting the industrial plants of the iron and steel company and to give these plants a rail connection with the Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia and Reading railroads.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, extending from Mill Road to Swedeland, Pa., 1.452 miles, was acquired by donation and construction. On March 30, 1911, the Richard Heckscher and Sons Company, at that time owners of a blast furnace located at Swedeland, Pa., released and conveyed to the carrier in perpetuity, for a nominal consideration, its standard-gauge, singe[sic]-track railroad, extending from the blast furnace to a connection with the Philadelphia and Reading, about 0.75 mile in length. That section of the road acquired by construction parallels a portion of the road acquired by donation and continues across the Schuylkill River to the industries of the iron and steel company, approximately 1 mile. This section was built partly by the iron and steel company for account of the carrier, and partly by contract between June, 1909, and April 1, 1911.
